Unique and Durable

I own three of these and am going to get at least three more for friends to try. Each one I use different weight line. When I go canoe or kayak fishing I can get my line into tight places. When hiking, I can be ready to find a good fishing hole or river shore. Their is ample room for hooks, weights and floats in the handle. The reel area holds a whole spool of most common fishing line and no need to keep replacing line. My reels had no excess plastic and was as smooth as a baby's butt. I keep one in my survival vest along with a small box of assorted tackle. I improvise lures from paracord and carry a couple of others with me. I have a rubber shaving bag that is about half the width of a normal shaving bag that I stow everything in. I keep one in my Jeep Wrangler. I have another in my back pack. I use 6 and 8 lb. lines. I love these units and very highly reccomend them tpo anyone for survival, camping, regular fishing and sneak fishing ! Thanks K-Bar for the unique and innovative fishing rig. Tie some paracord at end of handle for double security !

KaBar Kaster

I bought this mostly as a novelty item because I'm a fisherman.. After receiving it I realized it has some functionality and usefulness. It's size and weight are ideal for back packing / hiking. There are plenty of ponds and fishing spots along our trekks. It feels like a good sturdy product, and I look forward to trying it out. The handle also acts as a storage compartment. Though it is not very big, it can house a few weights, snap swivals. A few hooks and maybe even a small lure.

Needs adjustable spool drag

Be nice if they would make one with an adjustable spool drag for larger fish, and a screw on cap on the bottom of the handle to store stuff in the handle.

Nice little bag addition

Let me start with WHY I only rated 3 stars. The fit and finish is horrible. It looks as if its two halves glued together, by a person and never QC'd. Its sharp in your bare hand, on the bottom is excess plastic mold that was never filed off, the handle has little sharps where the halves are glued together slightly mismatched. Enough of the bad. The GOOD: I can use a small fine file, make the entire handle comfortable in 30 minutes tops. The storage inside though not large, its plenty big for two small steel leaders and a good amount of smaller hooks. The clip that goes over your line you add, looks well thought out. I will still find a way to fasten the line so its dbl protected. The price versus the usefulness here is high, as in a large value. Stock it up and toss in your go bag, its the step before you need to use your cordage.
