Upgrades (IMO) for Becker Kabar Short Ones
Designed for the Becker Kabar collaboration model BK-16, these scales are (in my opinion) an upgrade that also fit the BK-18 Harpoon model and BK-19 Nessmuk models perfectly. Though I read one review suggesting the forward (blade end) screw required one thread of the screw to be ground/cut away when these replacement scales were installed, neither of the two micarta pairs I received needed that Dremel tool modification. All screws and nuts fit the micarta scales exactly the way they fit in the original "Ultramid" (plastic) scales. To prevent staining these micarta scales with greases or critter fluids during later use, I seal these scales after installation by rubbing them with the same thin coat of "fixin' wax" (beeswax + lard) that I use to protect the carbon steel knife blades from corrosion. (Note: wax is my preference on the scales, not a required preservation.) Once the wax is rubbed in and absorbs into the micarta pores, the beeswax component makes the scales grippy, but not sticky or slippery. Your call on using that idea. Bottom line: If, like me, you simply prefer these replacement micarta scales to the OEM Ultramid version (for whatever reason), the ones I received through this Amazon link fit and work perfectly on two of my "go to" woodsy tools: the Harpoon with its upper "false" edge that scales a fish and scrapes hides very well, and the Nessmuk with its classically perfect game processing profile.
