Very sturdy and substantial blade without being too heavy for use as a neck knife. I recommend the video link that shows how to weave a decent paracord grip on the handle -- it really makes a difference for grip. Would definitely buy again.
I have the Izula, and this is a big upgrade. The blade is just that much more usable. However, this blade has two flaws. First, it has quite a few small blemishes. Small, but more than even a production knife should have. Second, and most importantly, the sheath is TERRIBLE. Slides out VERY easily, even if locked up. How can the Izula have such a usable sheath and this one suck this badly? I consider this unusable in its current sheath, it really is that bad!
My edc fixed blade. This is possibly the best knife for the money that currently exists. I put g 10 scales on it and purchased a leather sheath as I'm not big on kydex for daily carry. I prefer a lower riding sheath. If your looking for a knife this size you can't go wrong with it and D2 is icing on the cake.
Added to the out the door bag. The sheath attaches anywhere. The D2 tool steel may be difficult to field sharpen, but if you keep the edge sharp before leaving on a trip, it should stay sharp longer than the high carbon versions. I also bought the aftermarket micarta handles for it, the paracord didn't give me enough grip.
I got this knife when is first came out. The knife is very good. Trying to make up my mind if I want to get the optional handle stocks. I have cord wrapped on it now, and it feels pretty good. The IZULA stocks don't match up without modifications. Also have the IZULA. Like this better because of longer and wider belly on this one. D2 is a very good upgrade. Well worth the price at original price. The Only thing that would be an improvement would be the ability to work with the tec-lock. I like the ability to carry at an angle and you can't with the optional belt clip. Don't get me wrong I do like the sheath, the lock is a nice touch for neck knife use. But gets in the way on the belt. Do yourself a favor and get this knife if you want or need a neck knife. You will get a knife worth the money.

This is my go-to fixed blade for working around the house. It's perfect in that capacity, but it would also be great out on the trail, camping, fishing, hunting...whatever. I've left it on my belt while out running errands a few times and loved having it there. Such a solid little slab of steel. I originally wrapped the supplied paracord around the handle but eventually opted for the add on handles that are sold separately. I've got big hands and the paracord's slim profile was great at keeping the knife's bulk down but I wanted fatter scales to fill my hand. The handle length of this knife is on the small side. I have an ESEE 3 and that knife fills my hands better, but this D'Eskabar is such a great little blade, I'm happy to make do with its slightly shorter handle. Haven't had to sharpen it yet, so I have only read horror stories about what it's like trying to sharpen D2. I'll have to make sure I keep the existing edge profile in good shape so I don't have to set a new bevel. Only complaint about the sheath is that it doesn't come with a belt clip but I used the supplied paracord to make one. This knife is a crazy steal at $40. BUY!
Great knife Great Quality Great Price The sheath is good but I wish there were Other carry Options. The additional safety lock is a bit awkward to use. I removed mine. I believe it will serve me well thanks for such a great value Becker/Ka-bar
Good enough to buy 2. I am really happy with the steel. The first one had a poor grind but it wasn't a big problem easily fixed. Decided I wanted another go keep in a different location. D2 is definitely an upgrade over the 1095 Also the sheath had perfect retention without the blade lock
This is the perfect small knife.It's light and slim and arrived very sharp.With the full flat grind it's a great slicer.I prefer to carry it on my belt as i'm just not a big neck carry type.Normally i prefer scales to paracord wrap but on this knife the cord wrapped handle works really well.For me the BK-24 is a near perfect EDC blade--not too big, not to small and for the price an unbeatable value!
This is a great fixed blade knife. It is easy to carry about, takes up little space and is well made as I would expect from Ka Bar products. While not exactly a EDC knife for me I do carry in on my motorcycle when traveling.
I was in the market for a high-quality neck knife and this is what I've decided is the perfect option for me. It has the same handle as the Izula yet a slightly larger blade, made from D2 steel, which is preferred over 1095. The sheath is also a major selling point with a secondary retention system to guarantee if does not fall out when I don't want it to. Great knife Kabar, thanks!
I bought two because of the price, then bought three more because it's well designed knife that is sturdy and fits my grip rather well. At first I didn't care about purchasing a sterile version, but I found a company that does deep laser engraving. If I like the result of imprinting my name where the bolster would be (if it had a bolster), then I will have another knife imprinted with my God-Son's name for his next Christmas present. The scabbard for a neck knife is well built, but I prefer belt carried
I bought this nice as a gift for my brother. The quality of the blade and sheath are very high quality. Definitely what you would expect from the makers of the knife. At this price, you can't find a better EDC or "go bag" knife. If you plan on using this knife if often, or in tactical operations settings, I would suggest purchasing the handle scales. I have a slightly larger hand and the scales would make for a better purchase on the thin handle.
Slightly smaller than I envisioned but nice shape, nice weight. Comes with black paracord to wrap handle...I opted for a two color version using cord I already had. Edge was not razor sharp but 15 minutes with the Lansky and I have an edge I am happy with. I am carrying as an every day carry so the compact size works out well for me...if I were headed for the woods I would probably opt for something a little larger. I prefer to carry it horizontal on the back of my belt...sheath does not lend itself to that...didn't quite fit Molle lok...got a Tech- lok and am modifying it a bit to make it work. Several pre-drilled holes in the plastic sheath but they don't line up with popular attachments. A little too big for a neck knife in my opinion. Nice weight and feels good in my hand after adding the paracord wrap. At $2.95, shipping was very reasonable and went out within 2 days or maybe next day...2 days in the mail I think...good service by Knifecenter folks. Decent value at the 'sale' price of $39.95. Don't think I would feel the same at the regular price of $83.
I bought this knife to carry while back packing. The knife feels great in the hand and is extremely lightweight. The blade is a good thickness and came very sharp. The only downsides are there are machine marks on the spine so it looks a little unfinished and also the handle has some pitting. There is no pitting on the blade however. This does not bother me at all because I bought this as a tool for hard use and I never planned on it looking perfect. Also it is very hard to beat this price. I'm very happy with the knife.
I took the BK24 on a recent hiking/camping trip and I have to say that, for the money, this was an nice knife. While it's not an "ultralight" option, for a fixed blade steel knife, it's about as lightweight as you're going to get. The blade didn't come out razor sharp, right out of the box, but I have a sharpener and got it there without too much work. My only real complaint has to do with the sheath that came with it. It's really bad. With a few quick shakes, the knife would fall out of the sheath. Not only is that dangerous (I have no interest in impaling a foot or losing a toe), but it would be really easy to lose the knife out on the trail. However, since I noticed this to be a problem from the start, I found someone online that makes custom Kydex sheaths. The Kydex holds the blade securely and is lighter than the OEM sheath. Very handy little knife -- unobtrusive and strong. The finish is a bit rough, but you are getting a knife in a premium tool steel for a very low price. It sharpened up easily and quickly -- I haven't used it much yet, so can't really comment on edge-holding, but given the reputation of D2 steel I would expect it would do well. The sheath is OK -- if a little on the large size given the size of the knife. Overall, the package is probably a little large for neck carry. The paracord supplied with the knife is more than sufficient for wrapping the handle (which improves the feel in the hand quite a bit.) All in all, a nice knife for a fair price.
This is my second EsKabar, and it's a great knife. My first one was coated, and I stripped it, added jimping with my dremel, and gave it a paracord wrap for a handle. It was a handy little blade for about 5 years. Then, I lost it while camping. So, I recently bought this new "naked" version, & it's still pretty great. I'll add jimping again, & the handle scales are adequate. I wish they had a bit of a palm swell, but that's just me being nit picky. Good little knife, I recently used it to clean a lot of rainbow trout, and it really shined in that application.
As for the knife, I like it. Maybe slightly smaller than I anticipated but still good. I found an interesting wrap technique on you tube using two colors of paracord. Looks great, feels good.. Factory edge was pretty shameful. Twenty minutes with the lansky and I'm happy. The sheath, however, is junk. I'm carrying it horizontal on my belt and the d#mn switch won't keep the thing in the sheath. And forget about carrying it inverted on your pack strap or something...it will fall right out. It does not click into the plastic like other hard plastic sheathes I have seen...(think CRKT Ritter Mk6)...it depends on that little thumb thingy to hold it it...and just a little pull or a bump against something and out it falls....I expected more...at least having the ability to keep it in the sheath. Now looking for a custom make. I really like the feel of the paracord wrapped handle though. They say it was priced at $39 marked down from $83....if I paid $83, this would be going back. Seems like a decent $30-40 knife IF I sort out the sheath issue.
The knife came to me with what appears to be stray jimping marks at the front top tip of the knife. At the price, I can tolerate this cosmetic flaw. However, it would have been nice to have actual jimping in the spots where they should be. Overall, it did come sharp out of the box, but not nearly as "razor sharp" as I expected (not a big deal, I don't use my knifes to shave). Finally and very importantly, the sheath that came with the knife is an absolute hazard. The knife can dislodge easily and even with the "thumb lock" in place, it doesn't take much of a pull to make the knife fall right out. Now imagine that you're in the woods on a hike, wearing it like a neck knife and bump into something that causes it to fall out in front of you...I hope you're wearing heavy pants or steel toed shoes, because you're going to get sliced or stabbed. So, factor in the price of a separate Kydex sheath.
I Liked the blade shape primarily for a backup hunter knife. Comes with the sheath which allows knife to hang inverted (blade up) for great use as a hiking/backpacking knife, easily can attach to a shoulder strap on pack to have instant access while walking. Probably use as a second skinning knife. Its lightweight is a big plus. If you like you can make a nice paracord wrap on handle for more grip. Quality was just OK. I bought two. One knife showed some oxidation and the blades grind did not appear so smooth as on my benchmades or spyderco. Although still decently sharp, I felt the need to hone the edge slightly right when I got em.
