Ka-Bar has done an excellent job with this...

Balance is terrific and the grip is very solid. Attention to detail and overall quality make this a steal for one Benjamin Franklin. Good sheath as well and the 1095 is decent steel. I am praying they will release a higher end version of this with a top of the line steel and maybe in Coyote Tan. This leatherneck has to admit that this is Ka-Bar's finest hour yet! I have one for work and one in my vehicle.

...no Brainer...

...classic design...if you don't want or can't find an original EK #4, this is the next best option and 1/3 the price...modern materials, excellent blade and feel in the hand...balance is perfect...strop a little and razor sharp...just a very nice modern version of a great classic knife; period...

Looks like what it made for

Its nice to have this fighter in my knife collection. I got years ago an Original ek 4 model (brass guard, mirror Blade finish, black micarta Handle). This "new" Ka-Bar" Ek is comperable to the original in one main point: Booth are nononse fighter blades that look like they made for- hand to hand combat in the last resort. In such a Situation it would be a pleasure to have one (new/Old) Ek to defend oneself....

Military fighting knife

I carried an Ek on my LBE throughout my years in the army; it fit nicely into an M8 jumpable scabbard. The Ek No. 4 is also the official knife of my regiment. It has never failed me, although I never had to use it against an enemy; MRE boxes and straps never had a chance! The protruding tang at the butt end was also useful as a pry bar. This version is an improvement over my old Ek No. 4. The blade is the same general shape as all the Eks, but a bit wider, and the sheath with the retention feature built-in makes the strap superfluous, but reassuring. The material seems to be kydex, but they're calling it something else. I like the feel of the grip, like a hard kraton, and lighter than micarta. Came sharp out of the box. Not a general utility or camp knife; this is a fighter. I hope they make the paracord-wrapped handle version soon; fits my hand better.

Great fighting knife!

Super sharp easy to sharpen not the highest quality steel but not expensive either. Feels great in the hand. Well balanced. This would do very well in a fight I think. Not too heavy.

Whoosh!

After buying the single edged model 43 after the first release of the kabar Ek series, because the 44s sold out, I figured I would never see a new 44 up for sale again.... Well, lo and behold, what reappears here at knife center but the ek model 4 (44) double edged knife! No hesitation this time, I pounced on one of these immediately! Looks like my single edge 43, except for the obvious double edge. And are those edges ever SHARP! More so than my 43, and every bit as sharp as my Hinderer ek model, and a tad edgier than the Spartan George Iv fairbairn Sykes knife. I also have a Winkler field knife and a Benchmade Arvensis, along with an rmj African combat knife. All very nice, but designed for a variety of uses. The blades mentioned at the top of this note? Dedicated sentry silencers, one and all....

Excellent Quality

I received this as a birthday/promotion gift from my wife. The quality of the knife and the sheath are excellent. I couldn't be more pleased. Sharp as hell right out of the box. It's pretty heavy, but that's a good thing for a knife of this type. The sheath is excellent. it will hold up to a beating and retains the knife well.

Bad to Bone

Excellent fighting knife. Very stout. Sheathe is good. Secure lock-in. Push tab down and blade easily releases. Super sharp. with just a tad of it is even better. Razor. This not in general a EDC, but great for collecting and carrying if so desired for security. Feels great unhand. scales are long. if you lanyard it choke down and swing with leverage. Wicked... Priced very well. All around great quality.

Solid build

To date I have not used the knife in any practical application. Therefore, I selected 4 stars as I don't believe I can offer more without using the knife. First impressions of the knife are excellent. The build looks and feels very solid and sturdy. The grip feels "grippy" and the notching in the handle pattern should accommodate wetness effectively (e.g. sweat). The handle is long enough for big hands yet narrow enough for medium ones (not sure about how small hands will do). The weight offers substance without being overwhelming, thus allowing dexterity. Overall, it appears and feels to be a solid performer with a nice balance of weight and dimensions.

Ek 43

Well, I just today took delivery of my Ek model 43, the single-edged one, and now I see it has been discontinued!! I am perfectly happy with the knife. I tend towards Benchmade knives. I have my old AFCK, a Thompson mini dagger, and that super-sweet Sibert designed Arvensis... My new ka bar ek, for the money, compares favorably with my Benchmade beauties... I DID reconfigure the edge angle from the listed 20 degrees to 25, which made for a scalpel like edge...well, almost. Suffice it to say it went through and sliced apart four layers of an old t shirt with minimal effort on my part... So, yes, I am happy with my ka bar ek, even if it is no longer available... Now, I have my eye on one of those Benchmade 417 FACT folders...

Used as New

Arrived with rubber band around box, no intact internal packaging like the ones I have purchased from other dealers. Both sides significantly scuffed. Paper remnants on one edge (looked like it was used to cut paper). The paper sheath cover for the blade was for a different model. I did not bother trying to return/exchange as I am done with Knife Center. Second of the three orders I have placed with KC that arrived in damaged state. This knife was clearly used (perhaps a return not checked before restocking). Glad I found out about KC before I ordered something very expensive. Cannot recommend KC.
