Good product

Cool product, first one I've ever owned. Used it twice the day after rain both times to start a fire, just find dry kendling. No brainer to use. The striker says "this side up" point that towards the steel angling slighty towards the steel and it throws plenty of sparks.

Good Product with Slight Issue

I have started fires with this product successfully, though not without some trouble. The rod itself is fairly short and thin which makes for striking it a pain. You'll be using this with small particles of some flammable material and being able to easily hold it and strike to a desired area can be tough. Overall, the above is more a criticism of it than a complaint. I am glad I own this since it is water proof and will last a long time. They do make larger models which I may go with next time around, though this one isn't a bad choice.

An excellent purchase, This fire starter will make sparks even while its pouring rain outside. if you need a reliable way to create sparks anywhere, anytime... then this is the tool for you

No magnesium.

It sparks normally. It is quite small and the magnesium type is probably better for extreme cold/wet situations.

Rarely throughs aspark

Unlike my other “yellow handle” fire starter, this one hardly ever sparks. I see the Up label on the striker, but it just doesn't work - well, maybe every 20 or so attempts. And even then not much spark. I tried the striker from that other fire starter, but no luck. Tried the spine of a knife, no luck.
