I bought both this and the iridium and find myself carrying the covalent on the regular. I absolutely love this knife. The only thing that I would change is the scales, as soon as they come available on the after market I will definitely upgrade. The action of the lock is smooth, and the addition of the flipper make this absolutely perfect.
Running through EDC blades maybe once a year, this is truly a favorite. For a smaller blade, the features are balanced perfectly. Weight is very light, considering I carried a Kershaw Piston for awhile (which is another favorite). Nice handle contours, with enough texture that I never noticed it was not enough. The flipper action is just right, but the lock to retrieve the blade is awesome. So easy to flip out, cut, and retract. Instant. Great personal steak knife too. :)
Pros: Ease of Opening, Handle Feel, Lock Ease of Use, Lock Type, Pocket Clip, Weight
Cons: None
Easily in my top 5 favorite kershaw folders
I originally bought this because I didn’t have a crossbar locker and wanted to add one to my collection. Turns out this is a great EDC. I must say that I love the lock. It truly has one handed open and close without putting fingers in the path of a closing blade. You can literally flip it closed with some practice. The weight is low and a slim-ish frame is great for carrying while wearing shorts. For reference, I usually alternate between the Kershaw Link, and the Kershaw Dividend for an EDC. The Covalent will be in my pocket until the weather turns cold and I go back to the Link. I actually like the ultra deep pocket clip. The texture on the scales grip your pocket nicely. I have lost knives and it sucks. I feel like your pocket would be pulled enough that you would notice if it were to take a tumble. One of the reviews mentioned that there was play in the hinge when open. I recall tightening mine out of the box and it’s great, no play. Ball bearings are smooth. I usually have to “tune up” the action on all folders to my liking. I don’t often leave reviews, but I feel that this one is worthy of mention. Great knife for this price point!!!
Purchased from KC on 1/17/23 Here's the thing, out of the box, you'll love it. Or, at least, like it a lot. Personally, upon first inspection, I was dreaming of a bigger version, but really liked it over all. Of course, that is purely subjective opinion. For reference, my long time EDC is an Endura. I have now carried it for a few weeks and it has a fatal design flaw that will ruin it for most people. The pocket clip, which is proud of the top of the knife, allows material to cover the top and prevents the knife from being pulled out of the pocket without a struggle. Sometimes, even a two-handed struggle. For the price, this should have been a home run, but Kershaw grounded to first with the pocket clip.
Opened and locked like a champ. Unfortunately it has a lot of play side to side when in the locked position.
