Modern Gentleman’s Knife

I have a soft spot for traditional slip joint pocket knives so wanted to give this new offering from Kershaw a whirl. The first thing I noticed is that it is very slim, lightweight, and ergonomic. The blade is exceptionally sharp and has enough length to be more useable than a typical “pocket” knife. It is easy to open but at the same time “locks” into place securely for a slip joint. The blade steel and handle material are both very high quality. It doesn’t disappear in the pocket the way a Spyderco Roadie does, but the blade length and shape makes it more versatile. I really can’t see a downside, it’s a fine EDC and a pleasure to use.

Easily my Favorite USA Kershaw

This knife is excellent in many ways! It has a simple and superb handle and blade shapes, cpm154 blade steel has to be some of my favorite, the micarta is super dry and will "take on" plenty of oil and dirt/character over time. The double detent system is interesting and unique, and I can see how some may not prefer it to a traditional slipjoint backspring, but I quite like it, personally! Well Done Kershaw USA

First slip joint and love it

This is a knife that is about as simple as they come. Classic slip joint knife but done well and more modern. The double detent keep the knife locked out well enough and the blade shape and full flat grind is very slicey and usable. Feels great in the hand and is not noticeable in the pocket at all and super light. Not quite leek thin but very slim. The full steel liners and micarta make it feel great in the hand. The price could arguably be lower, but it is well made in the USA. I like it.

Very Nice SLIPJOINT From Kershaw! (RARE)

Simple but Classy! Love the steel and the blade shape with the deep belly and flat grind. The Micarta scales lend an additional security hold to a handle that is big enough to fit all four of my medium-large fingers (large glove size fits me well!) I have revisited slipjoints over the past several months, and find this one among my favorites!

Nice Knife!

Classy, comfortable, and sharp! Thin enough that you hardly notice it in your pocket. Micarta is comfortable in the hands. The blade is sharp and thin for slicing. Nice fit and finesse. Very pleased with my purchase - The Federalist is my new EDC.

EDC, gentleman’s carry, ideal knife to carry in a suit pocket or more formal wear. I have trouble putting this knife down. It feels that good in the hand. A whole lot of blade and cutting edge in a knife that is light, slim and feels much smaller than it really is when stowed in your pocket. If they make it in another color, I will by that too.

Sensible EDC Decoy

I've used and carried the Federalist Slipjoint folder for a couple years. It's a slip joint folder so as long as you aren't going gonzo with it it isn't going to shut on your fingers. I can forget it's in my pocket until I need it, it carries really well. It's a fairly thin and lightweight knife. It also fits in the smaller fanny pack pockets well, with all the other stuff like chapstick, a lighter, and keys. Why would anyone carry it in tandem with a defensive blade? The flat grind and thin Bowie-esque shape of the blade make a very useful slicer. If you're not afraid to use your knife on day to day task and still cut your protein at dinner, you won't freak out the normies at the restaurant when you take it out of your pocket. Plus you save the edge on the defensive blade. I'm buying a second Federalist, in case I loose this one. it's that good. I never understand why this knife is in stock. It's so good it should sell out quickly.

Beautiful knife, falls short

The Federalist in a nutshell: great build, classy lines, perfect size… and then Kershaw decides to leave off the one thing that makes it practical for everyday carry, the pocket clip. Slipjoint or not, a modern folder without a clip forces you into pocket-drop carry, which is fine until the outline prints. And with a long, slim knife like the Federalist, It sticks out in a way that gets attention you don’t want. The shame is that the knife itself is excellent: • Good steel • Clean fit and finish • Nice walk-and-talk • Lightweight and actually useful But no clip means it goes from “daily carry” to “special occasion” for a lot of people.

Not safe

I have feew kershaw knives, love them. This one, supposed to be an excellent knife, very comfortable , nice micarta. Excellent steel. And 2 major issues. No pocket clip. How ?? And the most annoying , it does not lock. Almost at all. Few times almost injured myself because it accidentally almost closed with my fingers between handle and blade. No way i can trust it anymore.
