Great first flipper.

So for context this is my first Balisong, I've resisted buying one for a long time because I used to think they were kind of jinky and impractical but hey, love knives so it was inevitable I would buy one. Chose this knife for the price, the blackwash, made in the USA, and the aesthetic, have had a good experience with my Kershaw Skyline and didn't want to shell out $400-500 for a Benchmade or something. As many prior reviewers have said, quality control is top notch on this model for the price, the bearings are silky smooth, the lockup is tight, there is no blade play, and the blackwash finish looks really beautiful. As far as flipping goes, again, this is my first Bali but it has been great. I have been flipping about an hour per day in 20 minute increments for the past week, working from basics up to index rollovers and Y2K type stuff (haven't gotten to anything more advanced yet but I'm working on it), I feel like it spins very well. I have heard that the Aluminum or Titanium handles are a good upgrade for weight but I can't speak to that, never having used a lighter flipper. My knuckles have been pretty banged up but after about a week they are getting used to it and now my only real gripe is when it pinches when doing rollovers but that is infrequent. I haven't felt like finger fatigue is an issue due to the weight, I am a small guy who works a desk job so I wouldn't say I have "strong" hands to any degree, so, take that for one man's opinion, I think it's very usable and the weight is not an issue. If I pull the trigger on some of those Aluminum handles maybe I'll post an update and rave about how much better it is with a low weight but, hey, right now I'm very happy with the knife. Also, for the record, don't buy the trainer, I have taped the blade using 1/2 inch pieces of painters tape in an overlapping "scale" format (which the handle allows for without any rubbing) and it works perfect, zero cuts to date, just have to re-tape the tip every 2-3 days when it pops through. Definitely take a roll of painters tape over a $100 trainer :-).

BAD BOY

I have not purchased a kershaw knife for a long time but I am glad I picked this one up. This is my first Balisong and I really dig it man 💪 super smooth operation and very nice quality. Flips open like a mad dog. Once it’s opened up that blade is huuuuge. AWESOME KNIFE AWESOME PRICE. Don’t hesitate get one ASAP. 👍🏻

Solid and practical

I bought this as a heavy practical knife. I had an unbranded one that someone stole from me in the UK in the '90s! That knife got a lot of use on the job, cutting ropes while climbing in a harness. This knife has heavy handles and the blade has a relatively slim spine. Probably not a good pry blade. However, when locked up, it feels like you have a long fixed blade knife in your hand: solid. Don't fret about that incongruous hole at the base of the blade. There's plenty of extra meat here, and the knife will fail elsewhere first. The blade length is absolutely "not too short" for any reasonable use I can think of! It's an easy flipper, but the sharp edge doesn't tolerate mistakes and WILL bite. On the plus side- the "oopsy!" slices are clean and heal quickly! I'll drop in and post a review after some serious use. So far this knife is shaping up to be perfect for my needs. P.S. I bought the trainer too, and I can tell you that it was 110% worth it to avoid shelling out for bandaids, stitches, surgical reattachment etc.

It's not bad, but not good either.

This knife is certainly well-made and you can tell the moment you pick it up. The blade steel is good at this price point, and everything is rock solid. No tap, and no play worth mentioning. The pivots were buttery smooth and even more so once I tuned it myself. The blade came very sharp and it was tuned well out fo the box. It also locks up well with the included latch and sounds great to flip. However, it is not a very good flipper. The handles are far too slim and far too heavy to be a good flipper, and the spine fo the blade is very thin and is uncomfortable on your knuckles, as well as the tang hurting like hell when it pinches you. It also sucks that the latch, while working well, is very noisy and sounds tinny, and there is no pocket clip or sheath for this 'EDC-oriented beginner bali' as many people call it. I do not recommend for beginners or people with small hands or flippers who like lighter balis.
