I've had the live blade 5150 for a while now, and only lack of funds kept me from buying the trainer version at the same time. I was slightly surprised to find out the 5150TR isn't just a blunt version of the 5150, it has identical balance, profile, and weight as the 5150. Any motion you practice with the 5150TR will directly translate to the 5150. The 5150TR would also function as an excellent kubaton/striking impliment too.
Off with the latch and then she flips so smooth. This one exceeds expectations. Right out the box she was ready to go. Zoning out with this Lucha trainer is effortless. Love the weight and balance. A concrete breaker for sure. This one comes highly recommended.
I owned and frequently used a cheap butterfly knife (from Austria!) back in the the UK in the early 90's....until someone stole it! 26 years later, and after much drooling over the Knifecenter website, I finally decided to treat myself to the real thing (again). Knowing that Kershaw blades always come screaming sharp from the factory, and knowing that I would be starting from zero with my butterfly skills, I opted to get an unsharpened trainer, in addition to the sharp version. Yes it is heavy, but that forces you to become more efficient rather than 100% relying on your first knuckle as a backstop. This knife seem bombproof so far. I can flip without embarrassment after a few days. After opening up the sharp version I can say that I am very, very, very, very glad I opted to get the trainer to make my mistakes with first!! I would have taken off a finger tip and absolutely needed stitches had it not been for the trainer. The trainer is a very good match for the sharp version and I look forward to carrying the sharp version, once I fully trust myself!! 100% recommended.

Excellent Balisong
Iam a beginner in flipping and and a happy owner of this Balisong. It is a high quality made, full steel Balisong and compared to my other, the heaviest (50 gramm difference). I love this construction overall and have to mention the precise blade bearing with nearly no tollerance and the good balance which allows a very smooth flipping. For me it is more a nice to have in my collection as a daily flipper. i have to wait 5 weeks for this package but i would buy it again, i can recommend this product. greets from germany
If you want to learn flipping a real lucha, this is great. BUT...
I think there are better options out there, if you are just in it for the flipping hobby. I am a novice to intermediate butterfly knife flipper and this trainer and the actual lucha were my first serious butterfly knives. This is a great option if you don't do a lot of research, which I will explain. The lucha overall is a pretty heavy butterfly knife that caters to EDC. The trainer allows you to learn how to flip something that has EDC purpose, but still flippable nonetheless. In my experience, there are times where flipping it can pinch your fingers when doing rollover tricks. It feels kinda hard to learn tricks on it with the heavy weight, but it is very durable and can take a beating. If you do get more into flipping, the actual knife has aftermarket handles you can buy that make it lighter and closer to a neutral balance. DO NOT get the Flytanium Titanium handles for the TRAINER. Reason being, the balance feels wonky because the trainer blade is heavier that the live blade by at least a couple of grams. Summary: If you want to learn how to flip *specifically* the lucha without cutting yourself (or if you want something durable and heavy from a good knife company), get this. If you want to learn flipping in general, I would go with options from flipping focused companies like Squid Industries, Glidr Co., Flytanium's TalisongZ, etc.
this is a beast of a trainer. built like a tank and handles like twirling acrobatic anvils. despite the learning curb of sore fingers, it flips gracefully. handling chaplin’s, ladders and especially fanning tricks well. the balance has a slight handle bias, which glues it to your finger during chaplins. generally i prefer a latch on live blades, however not a fan on trainers. my biggest critique though is the lack of a sheath or pocket clip option. overall kershaw did a really nice job on both their live blade and trainer models. i’d love to see a lighter titanium version in the future.
Pretty decent quality but not recommended for beginner.
Overall, the Kershaw Lucha is pretty solid. It has decent quality with little to no play, but I don't recommend this trainer for a beginner. The weight might make certain tricks challenging to learn. From my own experiences, learning the basic aerial can be tedious since when I was flipping and trying to catch it for the first few times. It keeps hitting my wrist because I'm still getting used to the weight, which over a few minutes of practice it causes a huge bruise since it's pretty heavy. Also, I get pinched once in a while by the balisong too, which doesn't hurt that much but it gets somewhat annoying and causes minor cuts too. Other than that I love this balisong, the handles feel really nice and I enjoy the neat design.
I liked this product a lot as it was perfect weight wise and shape wise. even the stainless steel was good. however I had to wait a while as I live in the uae and I was starting to think that it would never come. thankfully it did and now im practicing certain combos.
