Terrific EDC for the price

I own the knife after which the Natrix was patterned: the Zero Tolerance 770. The Natrix blade is the same shape as the 770 (although the Natrix adds a large blood groove), the ergonomcs are quite similar, the pivot fastener is of the same decor, etc. It's fair to call this kind of a poor man's 770. That being said, it's a very, very good iteration of the design at an amazing price. Yes, it has lesser steel, but the 8Cr13MoV is perfectly acceptable for an EDC. It holds an edge decently, is reasonably corrosion-resistant, and is easy to sharpen (to a wicked, hair-popping edge, I might add). I wouldn't use it as a hard-use shop knife, but it's fine for the usual EDC duty: opening packages, cutting through bubble pack, cutting rope or string, and so on. In addition, there's enough blade and a secure enough grip so that of necessary, this knife world be adorable for tactical use. Blade centering is decent; it's maybe 10% of from center when the knife is closed, but works perfectly and deploys just the way it should. The Speedsafe opening system works equally as well as my ZT0770. The scales offer a decent grip. The lock is interesting; it's a frame lock, but only uses a part of the frame, not the whole thing. You can see it clearly in one of the views offered on the Knifecenter site. This makes the knife a LOT lighter than if the whole back side was made of metal, as are most frame lockers. It also looks a lot better this way, because the back had a lot of the same material as the front (presentation) side. The lock engages a good 50% of the blade width upon locking. Nice. It's easy to disengage without turning your thumb raw, but not TOO easy. I love the clip on this knife. It's deep carry and unobtrusive. The clip comes set for right-hand/tip-up carry,.but can be switched to left-hand/tip-up. For the size of this knife (fits my XL hands comfortably), it is surprisingly lightweight. You don't even feel it in your pocket; you could pocket carry this without the clip. The knife came nice and sharp as with most Kershaws, but I took it up a couple of notches. It takes a wickedly sharp edge relatively easily. Highly recommended at this price point. I'll probably buy another in a different size and/or dress!

Very nice budget knife!

I have a few Kershaw assisted opening knives in my collection. This version with the KVT bearings opens as fast with the slightest flick as any of them. The best part though is when you close it it codes like a normal non assisted knife. You’re not fighting the torsion spring to close the blade. The KVT bearings are much much nicer than assisted opening and I’ll take these any day of the week over the assisted openers. It also weighs next to nothing! I have a Kershaw Link and it feels like a tank next to this. Granted it’s a much heavier duty knife too but still. This weights about the same as my Spyderco Para 3 lightweight and that’s a VERY light knife and a smaller knife. Overall this is a very very nice knife for the money. I can’t think of anything out there in the $35 range from any brand that would compare to this. On a side note Kershaw doesn’t mark the boxes in ANY way which ones are speed assist and which are KVT bearings (it just says “7007 Natrix” on the sticker on the box) so the fist one I received was a assisted opening model even though I ordered the KVT bearing version and it even stated that in the packing sheet(make sure you read the description because they make these knives in both styles!). One quick call to knife centerand Malachi in the service department had me squared away with a prepaid return label and an apology. Not even a week later and I had the correct model in my hands and Malachi had personally opened the box and double checked that this one was the correct one! There’s not much customer service like that left in this world anymore and it was so nice to see that! A big thank you to Malachi and the team at knife center!

Nice EDC for the money

When I buy a knife I ask myself, what do I expect from this knife for the money I'm paying. Thus, when I judge a knife I consider the balance between the fit, function and design of the knife in relation to what I paid for it. The Natrix is a nice knife for under $40. First, it's extremely light, virtually un-noticeable in the pocket. The assisted action is crisp and smooth. The blade was perfectly centered and the frame lock was solid and secure. I gave the blade the "play" test and did not find any play up/down or side/side with reasonable pressure. My only complaints, if you call them that, the blade could have been a touch sharper out of the box, but a couple strokes on my pocket ceramic sharpener fixed that. Also, the pocket clip is a little small, but it is tight and allows for a deep pocket carry. The handle has a light texture which won't tear up the pocket or the hand and also is big enough for larger hands. Overall, you'd be hard pressed to do much better for under $40.

Worth It At Sale Price

The knife is nice looking and I love the snappy opening. It came sharp, but not shaving sharp. It took a little work to get it real sharp. I think it may be a function of the blade metal. I have never owned 8cr before and, so have never sharpened it before. I like the light weight and the pocket clip. It has a very strong lockup and no blade play. What I don't like about it are two things. First, it can be hard to push the lock bar out of the way to close it. It takes a strong thumb and the exact right angle at which to apply the force. It may also require practice. I did find it is much easier to close in my left hand than my right. I am ambi, so I am less bothered by this. Perhaps lefties will enjoy this knife more? The other thing I don't like about this knife is the absence of any strength in the handle; it seems to be lacking full metal liners. This explains the lightness of the knife. It just feels less solid than most of the rest of my collection. But, for my intended uses, it is constructed solid enough. Just don't expect it to be really beefy. On the other hand, it has enough positives that I am satisfied with the purchase at the sale price of $26. Had I paid the regular price of $48, I would a lot less pleased. Had I paid the MSRP of $75, I would have been really upset by this knife. I don't expect this knife to be a part of my EDC rotation, but it is nice enough to be around and part of my collection.

For the money. For being made in China. Blah blah blah. Heard it all before. Cool knife. Cool story. Worth 30 bucks? Sure. Love how light it is! Speed safe is good. Good edc blade shape.

Meh...

I got this because it was a good cost. On the plus side the blade was razor sharp out of the box, the knife is super light, and the assisted open works like a charm. Unfortunately, the subframe lock leaves quite a bit to be desired. The lock pushes much further over than a regular liner or frame lock. The lack of jimping and the small gap between the lock and the opposite scale makes it hard to get a decent purchase on the lock tab making it quite a bit more difficult to close. I really have to dig a nail in there to release the lock. If I would have paid MSRP of $70 I would have returned it. Probably won't make it into my regular EDC rotation much. The "Lock Ease of Use" should definitely be an option in the Cons column for this knife.
