Pleasantly Surprised!

As a collector who primarily buys Protech Autos the Launch 14 was my first foray into Kershaw's Automatic offerings and I have to admit I'm insanely impressed. They've somehow managed to bring to the table a uniquely designed, pleasantly snappy, insanely ergonomic, automatic knife made with premium materials right here in the USA at a high value price point! I love my Protech's and still think they make the the superior OTS's but for the price THIS launch at least is absolutely amazing! The only real complaints I have are that the button is a little sticky out of the box (understandable) and the pocket clip seems to have been an afterthought, which is a disappointment on such a well-designed knife. Regardless 5 out of 5 will keep any eye on the launch series in the future and might even pick up one of the older models!

10/10

Just received this knife today. These are my first impressions out of the box. I love the unique style of this knife. The tactical look and the huge cleaver blade were something I could not pass up. I looked at several other knives on this site, but the look of this one kept landing me on the order page. The action on the auto opening is snappy. Make sure you have a good hold of the blade before you open it or that big cleaver blade will make you drop the knife. I really enjoy the feel of the knife in my hand. Super comfortable and well balanced. The groove on the back of the blade and the notch just below the cutting edge give a nice sturdy and safe place to choke up on the blade and really put some force behind it. The blade was shipped very sharp out of the box. Used a coupon code to get a nice whetstone for free with my order to make sure it stays that way. The only negatives that I have with this knife are pretty minor ones. The pocket clip is very tight out of the box. That is something that will wear in time. Beyond that I wish there was a safety on this knife, but I knew there wasn't when I bought it so I can't really complain about it. Aside from those, admittedly, very picky gripes the knife is a 10/10. Looks and feels like a quality American made knife. This will be my edc for the foreseeable future. Tomorrow will be my first day carrying it. I will update my review if my opinion changes.

One fine knife

This knife is all a man needs. The blade opens like a man’s knife should. I find that the blade retains its edge. I use it in all kinds of situations. It is also in my pocket. Great knife.

Fantastic look, feel, fit, finish - Could use a safety lock

First off, this knife just looks cool. It's an automatic cleaver, how cool is that? Beyond the looks, it's a very functional knife that feels great in the hand. The fit and finish is very clean and makes this knife feel more like a 2-300 dollar knife. It seems a little strange that they broke up the handle on one side to add the carbon accent and not both sides, or provided a cleaner solid handle, but whatever, it still looks great. I've been looking for a folder that can be used to chop on a flat surface for some time. There are so many great sheepsfoot and Wharncliffe blades out there that do their job, but because of the handle shape, you can't get them to lay straight on a flat surface. This knife has no problems working against chopping block. The handle itself feels perfectly comfortable in my ML hand, and the extra finger choil and jumping on the blade let you really work some serious chopping and slicing. The only thing I would add is a safety lock. The button is solid enough that I don't see there being any issues with accidental deployment, but I guess I'm just used to having the safety on all of my other auto and assisted side openers. It also has my favorite type of pocket clip. I can barely feel it in my palm when holding the knife.

cool look, but not dialed in.

The knife looks great and feels great in the hand but the blade is too heavy for the handle and the specific auto mechanism. The blade is heavy enough to build up enough momentum to jump out of your hand if you do not have an overly tight grip on it. I have had this knife jump out of my hands and the hands of two of my friends even after warning them of the knife's tendency to want to do so. Second, the knife has so much momentum as it swings open that it only locks in place about half the time. If you have a firm grip on your blade, which is necessary to stop it from jumping out of your hands, the blade swings open, hits the hard stop at the end of the swing and bounces back just enough, but fast enough for the lock to not engage. I have a Launch 8 and the precision and smoothness of the auto-action is a thing of beauty. The 14 is like trying to drive an F-150 with a funny car engine. Once it gets going, it will be a handful, swings like a hammer, and doesn't want to stop where you need it to. Great looker, great blade, but sub-par for a Kershaw auto.

Sticky lock button

Fast & powerful opening but the pivot joint was too tight literally right out of the box. Would not open fully and have to manually open the last millimeter that gets stuck. Unfortunate for a so called high quality made in USA kershaw. Disappointed
