Extremely good value for a US made auto

So I hadn't purchased a Kershaw in a long time. To me they were more "gas station" knives. But when I saw this it appeared to me they had stepped up their game. I am not disappointed. Excellent weight, balance, action, blade shape. I ultimately purchased this because of the Magnacut, which I am loving on my other Hogue Deka(s). Some have said he button is gritty; yes, it is. However, it does smooth out (quicker when lubed) with use and the very positiveness of it lessens the chance of a misfire. The blade was acceptably sharp out of the box, but not stellar IMO. I got it to stellar with some stropping but it took and aggressive compound followed by a polishing compound. This isn't a bad thing. The Magnacut on my Deka(s) are easier to strop and I have always been slightly concerned about their heat treat not being enough. This tells me this Magnacut Kershaw probably has a better heat treat. The final con is the pocket clip. The depth of it is perfect, but the lip needs just a tad more curl to smoothly push on to the pocket edge. The screws really do need to be flush or countersunk as well. These are nitpicks on this knife, but all in all, this is a fantastic value for this type of knife.

Awesome Knife

Preordered this knife and anxiously awaited the release! The wait was worth it because this knife is fantastic! Light and slim makes it easy to carry but tough as nails! The automatic action has that sweet Kershaw kick making this my new favorite knife! Comparable knives with the MagnaCut blade are over $400+. The only con is the pocket clip seems a bit dainty but otherwise a great knife!

awesome

For what it's worth I am 61 own about 300 knives about 30 of which are folders over 400 dollars and this is my first review. This is a great knife, possibly the sharpest out of the box ever. Plus, with the magnacut it will stay that way. Great action as well very near to my ProTech's. And to top it off I got it about 50 hours after ordering even though I live the other side of the country. Which happens most of the time with Knife Center. Just super happy, for the money one of if not the best buy, I've ever had. Thanks kc and kershaw

Loving this knife

Just got my knife in today and so far I am loving this thing. Action is snappy, blade came sharp enough to shave. This is my first auto and also my first magnacut knife so I'm looking forward to putting this to to work. Hard to point out any cons with this purchase, if I had to point one out its the button is a bit on the gritty side but seems like that will smooth out with some rem oil and a little time.

Excellent auto

Great handle. Pocket clip integrates well into the grip. The blade is darker than pictured. I think it's on of my best autos. I have several Italian stilettos, other small Kershaw Launch models, a small gerber, and a Hubertus stag leverletto. The flush button doesn't misfire in my Jean or fitness pants pockets either and isn't hard to fire. I have limited use of one arm due to surgery and either a fixed blade or an auto is easy to use.

No Regrets: Love It!

At this price, for this knife, I think some others are being a bit picayune! No, that's not fair! The difficulties they cite are legitimate. If those were bought at at Shot Show (how else could they have gotten them so early?) it could be that production and quality were not yet under proper control... My knife took some weeks to arrive ('delayed by manufacturer!'), so maybe there were some early issues! Suffice to say, I have no issues with the one I received! It looks great, deploys as designed, no issue with the closing, and the blade is immacuate and sharp, sharp, sharp! Unfortunately, the blade size takes this out of EDC territory in most of NY state (local restrictions are legal), and the hassle of being busted precludes the desirability of taking a chance! So it will be relegated to my 250 pc eclectic collection. My favorite EDCs are all within legal range throughout the state! I, too, look forward to future iterations of this knife, vis a vis the Launch 4; it is too important a knife at this budget price (relative to what it is!) for this to be the end of the line.... HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

Awesome knife

I've been debating this purchase foe a while, would this knife be worth the price? I opened the box and WOW. I snapped open, not gritty just smooth! Sharp right out of the box. I put a little more of a edge on it and gave it a touch of lube. Fit and finish is excellent. So happy I made this decision!! You need one!

A $500 knife for $150!! Awesome!!

Awesome knife!! First of of all, when it comes to automatic knives absolutely no knife has that strong kick opening like Kershaw does! This 7950 Launch 15 did not disappoint! Has a strong kick, the design is awesome, the Magnacut blade is strong and holds and edge, and the ergonomics are fantastic! It has a slim profile, which fits nicely in the pocket, and does not take up much space. It doesn’t even feel like you are carrying a knife! However, once I pulled this bad boy out (the knife :) ), all the people around me were ooooing and ahhhing! It fits really well in the hand, with great balance and as I said before the ergonomics are just fantastic! Really well balanced and cool retro “switchblade” look! Absolutely love it!! Also, Competing knives with a Magnacut steel blade cost in the $500 range! For $150, I got a $500 knife!!! Cannot go wrong with a Kershaw! EVER!!

Awesome

This is a great knife. Super sharp. Light weight. Action is great as well. Over all quality is amazing for the price. Premium steel at a steal. Now they just need some different colors for the micarta.

Nice steel. Would have bought it anyway but it could use upgrades.

Button press was gritty until I used Breakfree. Blade came sharp and centered. Nice tip. I would have liked a cooler color than black but had to get one since they are the first. But;

"Covert MK. 3" improvement on Gerber!

Applegate and Fairbarin would be proud of Kershaw's improvement of the Coverts! Hence "MK. 3" fits her well. Very well made OTS Auto. Fires almost like a PROTECH, using a beefed up coil spring, mine has not failed to fire nor has She fired accidentally. I sleep with this blade in my pocket and have no concern of a misfire... When closed she is an excellent kubaton, like the Coverts.... Kershaw got as close to the A-F design as they dared.... Not a 5 star knife cuz of the pathetic pocket clip! I had to modify a clip for the "Iridium" to be able to carry Her with some confidence. Best bet is to buy a custom titanium deep carry from "Dennis/Blade4Sale. Replacing the P.O.S. factory Clip Transforms the Launch 15 into a 5 STAR!!! Hope to see An XL version from Kershaw! Hope this helps someone!

OK, could be better

Handle is pretty but too smooth. The canvas used as a spacer is not good. Micarta on edge is uneven. Just look at the pictures you will see what I mean. Its not such a cool feature that it should have been done. Looks cheap. Other wise nice lines. I like how the whole knife progesses from tail to tip geting wider as it goes. Schweet. Let know know when some colors are in stock with creme inlays.

Disappointed

I am really a flipper guy owning only one auto, an OTF Benchmade. However, I wanted to get hold of a MagnaCut blade to see if the hype is true. My first choice weren't available with Magnacut (Benchmade, Malibu) so got this one as I have been pretty happy with my other Kershaw's. Out of the box it is not very sharp. About the same level of sharpness as those of my kitchen knives that currently need sharpening. Probably 2nd or 3rd worst out fo the box I have bought. The opening action is rough. I dont know if this is normal for an out the side auto but I can feel about 5 ratcheting clicks when I open the knife. Once it engages it has a very satisfying thunk. I am a fidgety guy, hence the flippers, but I am torn between that nice thunk and the roughness of the opening. Will lube and see if better. Will sharpen and see how holds up. First time I thought I ought to write a review of a knife.
