A very serious and efficient piece of steel! Looked like it was kind of pricey but took the chance and was pleasantly surprised. Very high quality and razor sharp out of the box. Now that I know the quality of this brand future purchases from me are assured . Thanks for the high quality product!

Nice knife, nice handle

For the price, you get a beautiful Japan made knife that feels light and well balanced. Slices meat and fish perfectly - chops pretty well if you use a push-slice technique. People seem to dislike the plastic handle, calling it “cheap” but it’s comfortable not an isse at all. I have been using Hinckels knives with plastic handles for decades. The plastic handle on this Shun is a little slimmer than Hinckels 5-star but well-designed and I don’t feel like it needs any special maintenance.

Great at this price point

It has a wonderful water mark on the sides witch give it a great look. I was shocked at how simply and smoothly it cut trough onions and did a great job chopping up meat of ribs as well. It did not need any sharpening.

Tang broke

I love the edge and the slicy-ness of the blade stock. It's comfortable and well balanced. Unfortunately, mine broke right at the bolster. I have never used it on anything tougher than a watermelon rind and the handle came off in my hand while cutting a ball of mozzarella. I imagine this is probably under warranty, but we'll need to see.
