I have several Kizlyar knives as well as other Russian throwing knives. Depending on the material, weight and the manufacturing process seems to determine the ability of a knife to stick into its target more consistently. Example is the knife thrown by Kizlyar zip through the air and strikes the target accurately. Where other Russian throwers mainly copying the world famous Arrow seem to throw sluggishly and thumps the target. I think the main difference is Kizlyar uses stainless steel and have lower tolerances, versus the others that use tool steel or spring steel and the manufacturing process has more tolerances meaning the Kizlyar knifes are more precise instruments as compared to the Arrows etc. Its like comparing a scalpel to a butter knife. Kizlyar is refined as a scalpel. I know experience knife throwers can throw anything, but beginners need every advantage to grow in the sport. Beginners should use Kizlyar.
