I've had the basic Lansky for years. I wanted to upgrade one of the stones to diamond. This was a great. I can get a great edge with this fine diamond stone and the ultrafine ceramic.

Easy to learn and use.
I've used Lansky clamping type sharpening system since I was around fifteen, I have learned to do it free hand without guides as well. One of the things I've learned to do when I need a quick fix for a stone that has come off the plastic base was to use epoxy and some small clamps to reattach it.

The best stone with an average holder
I have been using Lansky products for the last 15 years. I love the edge you can get if you follow the directions. I use it on every type of blade, even axes and lawnmower blades (takes a vise for those) and the stones are top notch. But, Lansky could do a lot to improve the plastic stone holder. The reason I am buying AGAIN is that once again the plastic holder broke. This happens when you tighten the thumb screw to put the alignment steel on the stone. It is the only fault that I can find.
