Good Profiler
I purchased this stone to speed up sharpening time. This stone works well for profiling edges from one angle to the next a little more quickly. Pros: - The stone removes material much faster than the standard "Coarse" stone. - Solid construction, as seen with any of grit in this series of stones. - Produced a good foundation and set a fairly consistent edge for the stones to follow in the sharpening process. Cons: - I had to lap down the left and right edges of this stone with some 100 grit sand paper. Without doing so, the stone left gouges as it moved across the blade. I had to lap almost every Lanksy stone I own, but after doing so, they work much better. - You will only ever use this stone to profile or repair a badly damaged edge. Standard sharpening of a well maintained edge can start at the "Medium" or "Fine" stone. I may break this stone out for use only a few times a year because of this. - The "Diamond Extra Coarse" stone from Lansky would most likely be a better investment. I don't own that stone, but from what I have read, it will probably remove material more efficiently, without the use of oil to boot. Overall, if the diamond stones were not on the market, this would have been a 5 star review. Knowing Lansky made something a little better made me take away a point. I will be getting the diamond system some point in the future to compare.
