Luxury carving knife!
Many knives marketed as made for carving feature blade geometry that is not suited to this stated task. The GEC Pocket Carver, is a beautiful knife, but the flat grind on a thin blade does not bite the wood like you need it to. THIS knife bites! I have several sloyd knives (mostly Flexcut and Morakniv), and carve fairly hard woods like holly and dogwood, and none of them can equal this knife in terms of cutting deeply and smoothly. The handle is the most comfortable I have ever held. The crisp spine that LTW always features (for use with a ferro rod) can wear at the thumbs during long carving sessions, and the sharp-ish top of the handle fights against the sheath somewhat. Neither of these matters, however, are sufficient to take away from a perfect rating. This may be the grail knife for wood carvers.
