Flawed

I love Ben’s designs and have supported his knife making journey from the beginning. That being said his team including MKM overlooked their basic product testing and quality control process. The blade edge comes in contact with the barrel spacer while swinging the blade closed due to over travel. Now I have a chip out of my blade edge and the barrel spacer has the coating missing where the blade edge comes in contact with it. Luckily I saw that MKM released a video on Instagram stating the “quick fix” for this issue. I know they are sending out bigger thumb studs for those of us that purchased the first run of these knives after completing the required application form so Knife Center will send out the bigger thumb stud. I am really disappointed that I spent $140 on this knife and now I have to complete the “quick fix” myself by taking the thumb stud off and replacing it with a new bigger thumb stud. I can see another problem using the bigger thumb studs over time. Yes it will stop the blade from contacting the barrel spacer but what happens to the G10 scale after repeated closing of the metal thumb studs slamming into the G10 scales? You guessed it, it is going to ruin the scales eventually.

Great EDC/running buddy/small knife

Overall happy with my knife, I still get excited to use it everytime I pull it out and flick it open. I purchased one in blue for myself last summer and the only issue I had was the thumb stud being too thin and making a quick deploy irritating. MKM addresses the issue by sending you a thicker thumb stud and a tool to maintain and modify your new babes. However, when I purchased this knife I'm reviewing for a brother as a gift, the box arrived open (seeing as the sticker was already peeled I felt no shame looking inside) and the only piece missing was that thicker thumb stud. Just not a good look on either of our sides. Now as I look to upgrade my fixed blade everyday carry, I will not look for it on Knife Center, lest I end up with a bare blade. It's a great knife only with the thicker thumb stud normally sold with.
