Very nice tool. Well balanced and chops as well as a knife twice it's.

This knife would be perfect if it were a little thicker.

Fine for slicing very hard vegetables

For me the other day, it was turnips--the Ulu knife doesn't like thick vegetables,so I pulled out this, and it even fit the bowl--I like chopping in a wooden bowl. This knife's rounded shape is great for that. I'll reach for it again for big onions and cabbages, rutabagas, probably pumpkins as well. And if someone ever gives me a yuca to cook, that too. The plain wood handle is a bit big for my hands, and may not hold up under the bad conditions it's likely to encounter at my house. But then if it had been three times the price, I probably wouldn't have taken a chance on it.

Get rid of those old fashioned cleavers. Ergonomic shape lets you chop, dice, etc. much longer.

Weird Orange Thing

Simple, easy to sharpen, Cheap blade so have it in my vehicle. Not use in anger on a camp out yet but like the orange. Will modify the handle to suit, weighting seems good. Should come with a sheath or plastic blade protector

Kitchen machete

My wife straight up stole this from me right after I bought it. It's now "the kitchen machete". It gets used to process large squash and root crops from the Hispanic and Asian markets. It also serves as a BBQ spatula, pizza cutter & server. Beyond the kitchen, this tool is often seen in my wife's hand while gardening. It's one of the few tools pulled from the kitchen when we go camping.

I'm not crying

As a life long camper and woodsman, I'm pretty familiar with the Marbles brand. I saw this item and figured that I would spend a few bucks and test out the quality. The price was great, the performance was great and yeah, the handle is big for my hands. For the price paid, I think I can spend a few minutes with a sanding block to get it to fit right. after a recent storm I used it to clear brush and chop green limbs from fallen branches up to 1.5in. thick. Worked well and kept its edge after an hours clearing/chopping. All that was needed was 2 strokes on the sharpening stone and it was ready to go again. That being said, I did not care for the sheath. It does not cover the blade completely and the closure snap is misplaced. I have a feeling though that the reason the price is so good has to do with the likelihood of it being a second. Again, for the price, I cannot complain and I have been abusing the camp cleaver since it arrived last month with little to no problems. Great product and I'll be ordering another as a backup.

Okay, if you’re handy to fix it up

First off, I knew what I was getting into, so if this review sounds negative it really isn’t. Right out the box the blade was loose. I could shake it and hear it rattle. My wife actually laughed. The handle is held by three metal slugs/handle pins, which are sheared off. Put it on my workbench and drilled out the slug closest to the blade. Replaced it with a bell nut and bolt/washer assembly. The wood is cheap and the tang of the blade is exposed. I filled the crevice with e6000 to reduce moisture build up inside the cheap wood handle. The edge was not very sharp, so I did some stone sharpening by hand. No big deal. The printed brand label on the blade started to flake off a little. No big deal. It has no sheath, beyond the cardboard shipping sleeve. I suppose if I was serious the cardboard sleeve could serve as a pattern for leather making. I’m not that serious, hah! Once fully rebuilt, the overall handling was better and felt solid. I’ll seal the handle with polyurethane and just toss it into my casual camping box. I wouldn’t do anything serious with this blade beyond use it for some cooking. The orange color and size makes it quite easy to spot and find. Altogether, this blade was a project and I knew that when ordering it.

Needs some work before it's field ready.

I ordered this product because I thought the shape would be useful as an overall outdoors utility blade. Perfect for gardening and cutting back tropicals after the winter freeze. When it arrived I was surprised by the poor quality of the handle. Rough edges, very squared corners, thick varnish runs everywhere. The blade itself was quite thin and, with all that surface area, quite bright in orange. The snap on the sheath broke the second time I opened it. It took lots of time hand-sanding and reprofiling the handle to round it off and make it comfortable to hold. The gap where it was sawed for fitting the blade underneath is still uncomfortable. The good news is, it was sharp and is made out of carbon steel so can take a lot of abuse (over stainless). Marble's is seriously struggling and quality control is not what it should be. In the end, their camp cleaver is worth the refinishing work but only because no one else imports a similar style machete. I think they got the basic premise right but missed it in the details. I would have paid more for better quality.

Good for the money.

I like it, but it needed some work. I did'nt mind. I sanded down the handle so it was smooth. Handle was softwood & seemed like a magnet for moisture, so I sealed it with some minwax. It fits my hand great now & water is no worry. Blade steel was challenging to make hair shaving sharp, but it is now. Sheath is worthwhile to store it. You can use it in the kitchen. I hope to try it skinning a deer as well.
