The Real Deal

I've bought several of these authentic Bidor Parangs over the years. Spring steel, stock reduction technique, differential hardening, convexed edge grind...all good. Choppers. If I lived in Florida or some such leafy swamp I'd get a long one to slash trails, etc. But I live in the Pacific NW - Oregon...Conifers, Maple, Alder. I use these to help prep green wood to carve spoons & bowls. You can buy these cheap with the original plastic handle or the fancy My Parang version. Either will work hard and serve you well. Great tools...not pretty...just tough.

Awesome chopper and very comfortable.

Awesome and comfortable for chopping and slicing. Very practical in any jungle situation. Blade retention is very good. However the blade need to be oiled.

Be aware

My experience with knifecenter has been great so far, my beef is with Bidor. Many videos and pics show these with a fully functional 12” blade. But it seems Bidor it cutting their production time in half by not tempering or even completely hammer forging half of the blade to the bolster. I’ve seen like four inches on one not even touched on that portion, just flat bar stock and the rest incomplete to the curve of the blade. Sadly they’re misleading many by polishing the side all the way towards the bolster to give it the appearance of a complete cutting edge. If you just want six inches at the end of a 12” blade to chop, then it’s for you. But if you want to carve, plane and do other fine tasks near the handle, then I suggest asking the order department to check the warehouse for one with a fully functional edge instead of a defective one (good luck). Hopefully all the U.S. distributors will get the word out and put pressure on them to only export completed products because it’s unethical.
