Snoopy's Doghouse
I got this one because of the Al Mar design and it reminded me of my old favorite, the Kershaw titanium handled Wild Wild Turkey (1430). This one doesn't snap fully open with a forward push on the thumbstud like the Kershaw. Even after a little lube and some break in time it is still a little stiff and takes a good hard push and a little wrist to snap it open. It is probably due to it being a back-lock instead of a liner lock. Despite the harder opening, I appreciate the heartiness of the back-lock and it feels very solid. Once I got it open I immediately noticed and loved the long blade. Compared to many folders, the blade seems almost disproportionately long for the handle, but Like Snoopy's doghouse, there must be more room inside that handle than outward appearances. The jimping on the top of the blade was surprisingly effective at holding my thumb in place, which is important on this one because the handle is not swelled to keep your hand from sliding onto the knife edge, but there is enough of a finger choil on the blade just in front of the handle to allow me to choke up on it for fine detail cutting. Despite the spear point blade, this is not a knife for much hard stabbing in a normal grip, but the end of the knife was held fairly securely against the heel of my hand. If you need to stab something hard, I suggest using a reverse grip, edge forward, with your thumb comfortably hooked over the back of the knife. Beyond occasionally poking holes in stuff, this long blade makes it a great slicer and I tempted to take it out and use it as a steak knife. I expect this knife to be a great light to medium duty EDC with the VG10 holding up well. I also think it is classy enough for some dressier situations, but for those who care about such opinions that long spear point may look too aggressive. I will need to carry this knife a little more to learn about the clip for myself, but I have to agree with another reviewer that the shortness of the clip inclines me to think it may not be the most secure way to carry this knife in a pocket. I hope I don't learn this the hard way because I really like the knife and would hate to lose it. Maybe someone from Nemesis or a third party will read these reviews and offer a longer replacement clip. On the plus side for the clip, it s deep carry with recessed screws and the shortness does keep it out of the way when you need a firmer grip on it.
