Excellent Sharpening Stone

Great 2-in-one product. I intend to use it to sharpen my straight razors when they need it. I like the container it stores in and it put a great edge on some chef quality knives. No instructions on sharpening a straight razor comes with it. But there are good instructions available on the Knife Center site.

Great Stones

Great for refining the edge of your razor. These stones get your razor ready for the final polishing on balsa or ceramic. The plastic case it comes with is designed to keep the stone in place while you hone. Stone is wide and long for good laps.

Norton Water Stone 8 x 3 4000/8000 Razor Honing Stone

The KnifeCenter provides very easy-to-follow and clear instructions on how to hone a straight razor on a stone. Just look for the link under "Sharpening". I use the product exactly as the instructions on the box say. Soak the 4000 grit side before use. Just push the blade along and let the stone cut it. Use the 8000 grit to finish. Follow the instructions and you will have a perfectly honed razor. One thing to point out: NO stone-sharpened razor is ready to shave until after it has been properly stropped. Again, READ the entire sharpening instructions thoroughly or you will be less than satisfied with ANY razor you use. The stone should only be required for sharpening when your razor is brand new, if you touch the edge to anything other than your face or when it becomes unaffected by daily stropping, which should be about once every three or four months with daily use. Just a few strokes on the stone should return the bevel to proficiency and then the strop should be sufficient for maintaining the razor-edge until again at some point a few months away it becomes necessary to re-hone.

Outstanding Quality

I'm in the US Army and close to an Afghanistan deployment. I needed my CRKT knives to be sharper than out-of-the-box. The dual grits are amazing. The 4000 sharpens the blade very fast and the 8000 gives it that final razors-edge sharpness.

Good water stones

the same thing as said on Norton Water Stone 8 x 3 Inch 220 / 1000 but this is the stone to go to a fine blade without risks to the beginner on straight razors.

Essential for honing

I use this stone to hone my straight razor to a nice finish. Can't pop hairs off of it but I hear that a lot of people can't so that's no problem.
