Just about the best knife for your money

This knife came incredibly sharp from the factory. It has proven a tough EDC in my book. I gifted one to a co-worker, who accidently dropped it in a deep fryer, even after taking 5+ minutes to retrieve it from the fryer, it showed absolutely no signs of damage.

R2 D2 is an excellent value!!!

Now that it's available in D2 the Ontario Rat 2 is probably one of the best bangs for the buck in the edc knife world. Line up was perfect out of the box and the detent is secure, but can be flipped out with of the flick of the thumb with practice. The scales are grippy without being so rough that they eat your pants' pocket. It rides deeper tip down than tip up, and the pocket clip finish scratches quickly (I personally kind of like this). If the Rat 2 came with a deep carry clip it would be perfect, but considering the price it is still one amazing value!

Good Work Knife

I use this knife Mon-Fri when I go to work. As a windshield installer, I pry windshield wipers off with the tip of the knife... Absolutely no problem for this knife. The edge retention is pretty solid too. The action on this knife is *chef kiss* excellent. Ergonomics on this knife suite my hands well. Something to keep in mind: This knife is made with D2 steel. Oil the blade about 2-3 times a year to help prevent red rust from forming.

Solid

Got the brass scales and it's way cooler now. All in all poked myself first deployment and was sharp. 9/10 the handle is a little meh stock.

Greatest Value Ever!

I can't say enough good things about the RAT folders. Not too expensive yet as durable and edge holding as much more expensive knives. I like the RAT 2 so much I give them as gifts when appropriate.

Upgrade of a Great knife!

I have owned, carried and used both the Rat 1 and 2 for a couple years now, and was pleased when the 1 came out in D2. After what seemed like an Eternity, the Rat 2 is now out in D2! Aus 8 is a good budget steel, but D2 is a better steel for edge holding. Now I have a set of each, and will enjoy them. Very comfortable knife to hold, didnt take long to break in and I can use the thumbstud to open like my spyderco's with the "spydie flick".

Very impressed

I just received this, quick ordering process, was shipped out fast, and for me this is EDC, i chose it because of it's size and reviews. I am glad i did this knife is solid, came very sharp, locks up tight and is very smooth.. Great choice all around for someone that wants a "medium" size blade. Time will tell how it wears but it appears so far it will do so well.

Great EDC choice, just be prepared to maintain it.

I received this knife as a present last year (bought from KC), and it was better than the gas station knife I had at the time. I had never had a knife with D2 steel before, and now I know that I won't buy one again. Starting this summer, I was fighting rust every day, not patina, rust. The sweat from my skin mixed with the humidity caused rust to develop around the thumb stud, lock bar, and pivot. The pivot got to the point that the lube the blade came with caused rusty grit. A scotch-brite pad was the only thing that could remove it. Now to the good, The blade is sharp and I've only had to sharpen it a few times. The handle is the perfect size for me and is very comfortable. The pocket clip is a tad bit stiff but nothing that can't be fixed. The lock bar is hard to access one-handed but it is possible. The reason I rated 4 stars is because my situation is a bit unique, but as a warning, if you live in very humid areas, get the AUS-8 model.
