Rat 1-very high quality knife

Like many of the reviews, I find this to be a high quality, well built knife that compares favorably with many other much higher priced knives I own, including Spyderco, Benchmade, Kershaw etc. The AUS-8 takes a terrific edge and I simply touch it up on my leather strop every few days to keep it hair popping sharp. It is heavy but I equate that with quality. I use it for EDC and love it's ergonomics, ease of deployment and look. Classic! Highly recommended!

Awesome knife for the money!

I think this straight forward well designed knife is an awesome value! I now own it in 2 sizes and 2 blade materials, both are excellent! If you're thinking about buying one of these knives, my somewhat humble recommendation is to give it a try-- I'm happy I did.

Fantastic value

I own a fair amount of knives. This knife is fantastic. I love it when quality exceeds price, when you see features of higher-priced gear in a budget-minded package. This folder completely nails it. I purchased a model 1 and a model 2. While the smaller model 2 rides much smaller in the pocket, the model 1 is much easier to carry than, say, a CRKT M16-12ZE (another favorite of mine), due to its thin profile. Like to carry your knife multiple ways? This guy's got four options for clipping in, plus ambidextrous thumb studs. And the lock up on it is simply perfect. You'll find yourself opening and closing it over and over again, wiggling the blade to find flaws. You won't find a single flaw. It's smooth to open, and it wont move once locked. It locks up perfectly. The metal may not be the greatest in the world, but for an EDC, this knife is bang on. I'll be buying its estranged cousin, the ESEE Zancudo, to evaluate that against the RAT #1. It appears to be the only competitor in this price range. I strongly recommend this knife. It's a brilliant value and a great EDC knife.

Great quality.

This knife has better fit and finish than many $100+ knives I have used. Perfect lockup, no bladeplay, came just as sharp as any high end knife. After stroping the knife it is probably the sharpest in my collections currently. The ergonomics of this knife are superb, it is thick, but the profile is narrow, allowing it to disappear nicely in your pocket for how large it is.

Magnificent Folder

I own two Ontario folders, this Model 1 and an XM 2. Like others have said, it is hard to believe that Ontario could sell the Model 1 for $36. It is a simple liner lock but I seem to see the curved liner notch on the blade, This ensures greater strength and longevity. A feature found on the more custom blades. I am more than happy with this folder and quite pleased.

Best Value in the Market

In my opinion, this Ontario is the single best value knife available. Very durable construction and precision made. I've purchased many of these knives, in all the fancy colors. Perfect for a real user knife that won't break the wallet. Great job Ontario! Thanks Knife Center!

Feels like a quality knife

I just recently upgraded my EDC to the Ontario RAT model 1 and couldn't be happier. I wanted a quality knife that was durable, highly rated, and had a good weighty feel. When I first opened the knife, I was impressed with the nice, solid "click" of the lock engaging. I was actually surprised at how much grip it had, even though it was nylon. Though I haven't taken it camping yet, I am sure it will hold up to some abuse. Lastly, this was the sharpest out of the box blade I have ever owned. I always hear how others buy knives that are rather dull at the time of purchase and have to put in some work to give them a clean edge, but not with this one. This only downside that I will have to get used to is opening. The pin is in a spot that doesn't offer a lot of leverage, but I can live with it. I would recommend this knife to anyone looking for an over 3" stainless folder.

Excellent price. Blade deploys great. Blade shape and finish excellent. Handle ergos great. A little big in the pocket. I hate the shiny plastic look and the lack of gripiness of the handle.
