This knife has been popular for a long time for good reason!
Great blade, great ergonomics, good size, carries well. Well built! Would be nice if it was deep carry.

Unbelievable value.
I don't think you can find a better knife at this price. It's a little bit on the heavy side, but other than that, I have no complaints. The fit and finish is perfect. The action is smooth and crisp. The blade came sharp. The ergos are nice. The pocket clip is robust and it can be mounted on one of four different positions. There hype around this knife is real. If you only want one full size pocket knife and don't want to spend a lot of money, this is the one.

Well made knife with a good steel (D2). The liner lock is stiff enough that the chances of the blade closing accidentally are minimized, but not so stiff it can’t be closed with one hand.
Ontario RAT Model 1 Folding Knife 3.6" Satin D2 Plain Blade, Black Nylon Handles
I recieved my Rat1 about a week ago, sharp out of the box. I did a little touch up on the blade now it is razor sharp. The D2 steel definitely a plus, fits well in hand and the pocket clip is very sturdy. I have received many compliments from my coworkers, customers, and friends. I should have bought two for the price.I would definitely recommend it as a great buy. Ontario knife company job well done!

Perfect for the money
Just received my rat 1 yesterday and I've got to say, I'm quite impressed. It's nearly impossible to find a knife of this quality at this price range, even double the price would still be reasonable for this knife. I'm very pleased and would recommend this product to anyone, especially to someone looking for a quality EDC folder who doesn't want to spend much money on it. Great tool, and knife center always great as usual!

Excellent Knife
Wow! I wasn't expecting the quality for what I paid. 40 bucks! This is an excellent knife. I am planning to use this camping and mostly outdoorsy stuff. Deployment is nice and smooth. I do find this a bit larger than I want as an edc but I'm not getting rid of it either. My next one will be the little brother.

Rat model 1 excellent budget knife
good quality for the price. Good blade shape and steel. I would highly recommend it for a good cost versus use pocket knife (well made yet cheap enough to be happy to use on hard tasks) model 2 might be a better EDC as it's a bit smaller and lighter but an excellent budget knife all the same. As for the Knife Center what can i say very good selection and shipped to Australia faster than a Shop in australia will ship to me. i considered this a trial run and will use them for a lot of my future purchases.

Shabazz knows a Rat when he finds one.
I am a collector which is how I always begin a review. I don't use my purchase in the field unless that field is my immediate circumstance.Admittedly, I was surprised when I I watched Nick Shabazz converse with another vendor on YouTube (where else?) about the top 10 he would recommend.I bought Ontario's Rat 1 based on the merits and his enthusiasm for this EDC. Nick was taken with its attributes. Though I don't keep score, Shabazz knows a Rat when he finds one as excellent and cost-effective as Ontario's very fine edition with abrication and operability and a comfortable nylon handle in hand. The other reviewers have covered most of the reasons why Nick would recommend the Rat 1 be in everyone's collection. I concur as I agree it's a welcome addition. Though not a fan of thumb-studs, I opened the blade on the first try. Frame lock permits closing the blade requiring little effort. The EDC in hand feels fine. The sizing allows me enough leverage and the cut-out the right angle. The Rat 1 arrived in pristine condition. Sharp enough. D2 steel blade pristine. I prefer, however, to move the pocket clip to tip up and lanyard hole useable. As usual KCI gets one's purchases jet blasted to one's door. Am I being picky and absurd to mention no Rat 1 sticker which I would have found a use for. You dirty Rat. Nick was right.

Great Knife
This is a fantastic knife. I've had the AUS 8 version for years and it replaced several higher-priced knives as my EDC and work knife. And even though I loved it, I really didn't like the steel and secretly hoped for the exact design with better steel, and this D2 version is just that. I use my knives hard as part of my work--I cut a lot of twine, pegs, plastic cordage, and other rope--and this knife exceeds my expectations. The blade is razor sharp, holds a great edge for a long time, opens quickly and with little effort, has no side-to-side blade play, and the ergonomics are perfect for my large hand. I honestly couldn't be happier with this knife. If you like the original version, you will love this one.

Awesome knife for the $$
Love the knife as an everyday folder. I needed a non threatening daily knife that I could carry st work and this sure fit the bill. Quality was on point right out of the box and the blade was sharp. Lock up is solid and centering was good. Only surprise was the size and weight. I knew it was a larger knife but this as big as you want to get for an EDC. Smooth handles and thin profile helps it in the pocket

I’ve read and seen plenty of reviews about how good this and the model 2 is. I finally opted for this larger version. It is shockingly good for the money. I own mostly high-end production, mid-techs, and a few customs. This is a really nice knife.

I have two Ontario RAT Model 2 and use them all the time. One for work the other well lol after work. I have pick up lot of folders on this site but have loved these Rat' 2. Only made sense to pick up the Rat 1. It is an amazing knife. It is a solid folder. Sharp. I already know I like the steel. I hold this and know I can trust it. For me it's too big for an EDC but will be great for camping, diffidently hiking, or travelling. I love the sound of these Rats when they click open. One hand open and close. I can see me ordering another. Just because. It is great. The jipping on the back is rugged. This is a survival folder. It is center, no problem with opening or closing. Recommend - well yes.

I've bought almost 50 knives from the Knife Center since I discovered them about 18 months ago. Usually sort low to high, so I have a lot of <$30, <$20 and yes, even less than $10 knives. I always saw this knife come up in Popular Similar Products. It just doesn't look that special, but always had big ratings. Well, I finally bought one, in D2, Black Nylon Handles. (the cheapest one in D2 :-) It might find it's way into my EDC rotation, which is saying a lot. It's not pretty, it just feels really good. It's almost heavy and almost bulky and the blade is plain and simple but the smoothed over edges all around make it seem smaller and the plastic handles I'm sure save weight. It opens very smoothly and locks securely. I can easily close it with one hand. I guess I have many knifes that are not in my rotation and some cost more than this RAT 1 so bottom line, I like it. I have no regrets buying it, just don't quite see all the hoopla.
