Overall, a terrific knife for the money, especially on sale. The size and weight fit my hand perfectly. The opening effort is just right. The pocket clip can be moved to accommodate different preferences. The subdued OD color makes the knife less threatening looking to non-knife folk. The D2 blade came sharp and should be durable. Liner locks are not my favorite since wear or grit can inhibit a full lock up -- the only locking knife that has ever closed on my hand was a particular Spyderco liner lock -- but this knife seems fine so far.

Excellence for a great price
This knife is a steal for the value. I used to have a RAT 2 and thought it was great. But it was a little small for me (I have small hands but long fingers) and the steel was less than stellar. Then I found out about the RAT 1 in D2, two birds with 1 stone. So I bought mine in green and gave my RAT 2 to my brother and am absolutely pleased with the purchased. Ergonomics are good, blade is easy to sharpen and stays that way for a good while, and is built surprisingly SOLID. And did I mention the value? My only real knock is it might be a little too big for some folks but it doesn't bother me at all. What's not to love here? If you want a RAT folder this is absolutely what I recommend.

Any competitor reading along: this is what a budget/value handle is supposed to feel and obviously it's possible at less than 40$. The smooth finish might be somewhat problematic when the handle is wet or you're using gloves (haven't tried) and turn into a slippy, fishy experience. Apart from that "maybe" it's perfection when compared to other knifes in the 30 - 40$ range.

If you scour the internet, you will find enough information and reviews on the Ontario Rat 1 D2, so I don't want to bore you with all of that. What I do want to write about is the customer service I received from KnifeCenter. First off, their price for this knife is the lowest I have seen and I have turned every page on the web. So I already knew I was going to purchase this knife after reading and watching all the positive reviews. Plus I already have the Rat 1 is AUS8 and I love it. So going with the D2 was a no brainer. What did surprise me along with the great price was how fast they shipped my knife. Living in Hawaii, it is very difficult and sometimes impossible get to things shipped here on a timely manner. I placed my order on a Friday night and it was shipped on Monday, the first business day. I received it on Wednesday, 2 days later!!! For the people living on the mainland that might not seem like such a big deal, but for us in Hawaii, that's a huge deal. In fact, I initially tried to order an Ontario Rat 1 from Amazon before I discovered KnifeCenter and they wouldn't ship it to Hawaii. No idea why because I've bought plenty of knives through Amazon. Not sure what makes the Ontario Rat 1 so different. So if you want to buy an outstanding knife at an outstanding price with outstanding service, do not hesitate. Buy now from KnifeCenter.

EDC , holds up to some real time abuse . Can't beat the blade steel, D2 steel . You can actually take this into the woods with you and used it in survival situation unlike everything else that has a stainless steel blade .

I liked the strong build of the Rat1 & the larger handle size. Fit/finish, blade length, sharpness are done well. I don't mind the regular handle scales for regular use. Now, the new D2 blade steel further strengthens the overall quality of this knife for the price.

Best budget folder!
At the very least it's the best for under $50 I can think of, especially the D2 model. Easy to sharpen, gets razor sharp, comfortable in hand and carries very well for its size. It might be a little too big for some people's needs, but I have small hands and the grip fits like a glove, same with my Dad who has very large hands making it very universal. I highly recommend it!

Excellent fit and finish. Great blade with a good steel. Not so expensive where I feel like I have to baby it. I actually spilled black oil leather dye all over my first and was so upset I'd purchased a replacement within the hour!

Great value
D2 steel in an ergonomic package for $40, what's not to love? It is a little on the heavy side for my tastes for everyday use, but I purchased it for something heavy duty to beat on camping. Great construction and cheap enough that you don't have to feel bad scuffing it up. Just a note, mine had pretty severe lick stick. None of my Aus8 rats had that. Don't know if it's just my knife or something with the d2 line.
