Purchased to enter my rotation of EDC knives and to complete my RAT collection. This is a large knife but that’s what I wanted. Weight and balance are perfect for me, and the G10 scales are very nice. My only complaint is that out of the box new, it is extremely stiff and does not open easily. In fact, I initially needed to use both thumbs. I am still breaking it in and won’t carry it until it opens with more ease. I am talking VERY difficult to open, though it is getting easier as I work the spring. The soreness of my right thumb tells me that I will remember breaking this one in for a while. If you’re expecting immediate ease of opening, as in similar to a Kershaw Blur, be warned. Otherwise, I am very happy with this knife. For the $$, this blade can’t be beat.
Ontario RAT Model 1-A Assisted Folding Knife 3.625" Satin Plain Blade, Black G10 Handles
I very rarely buy anything imported but, I watched one of your videos about ten Knives everyone should have and I decided to add a Rat1 to my collection. So I decided on the Rat1A with G-10 scales. The grip and feel are excellent and the assist is strong, no flaws and excellent finish. I hate that I like it this much.

Pros: Ease of Opening, Handle Material, Overall Quality
Cons: None
Very grippy, fast deployment.
I love the G10 handle. I wish that OKC use this material to all of their RAT folder line up. If you like the RAT 1 perhaps this also will become your worth upgrade. G10 handle and open assist. The only downside is closing of the blade is quite stiff due to the spring assist.

Very impressive EDC
Used as an EDC, really excellent quality and action. Particulary suited to people with dexterity problems as I have. This is a great quality knife at a keen affordable price.

RAT 1-A Review
▪︎ This is my EDC, for all purposes. I think its one of the best sub-$100 locking folding knives out there. Blade steel is top-notch, and holds an edge through cardboard, wood, plastics and fabrics. I use it at work and on the property constantly. The assisted opening is a great help for one-handed use while working with my hands. I just wish the handle was a bit thicker with rounded edges
