Nifty little blade.

I use cheap utility knives daily and wanted a hooked blade for fibrous materials. Paracord, webbing, tie-downs, etc. This knife has found its way into use for many other things as well. I wasn't expecting a hooked knife to be so handy. The handle is pretty. The blade shape works well to quickly slice a wide range of thinner materials like 550 cord and boxes. The blade steel is better than most in this price range, though definitely not as good as their carbon steel blades. I've owned other Opinel knives and was expecting it to be sharper. The tip is actually quite blunt (that changed the day I got it). Sharpening is difficult as a result of blade shape. Figuring out a good method took a while. Loosely rolled fine grit sandpaper ended up working better than any of my flat sharpening stones. Overall a good choice for those on a budget and in need (or want) of a hooked knife.

Perfect all-around

Like the fellow just below, I must say that this has been one of my favorite utility knives over the last five years. It keeps a great edge for normal use (no aluminum plate, please). Especially when I use it for boxes, it literally goes for days of cutting cardboard before it needs just a few light strokes on my ceramic rod to bring it back to shaving. That little hook at the tip is the perfect tool for performing so many different infuriating jobs around the shop. It is especially useful for making arrows: stripping branches for arrows, processing feathers for fletchings, for a nocking tool, and as a makeshift v-gouge. Great knife. Cheap and tough, long lasting. Get three. I love Knife Center. They're like family after all these years. You spend enough time here, you'll find out real quick that YOU are their only priority. I don't buy from anyone else.

Opinel N08 Pruning Knife Folding

Bought this for a vegetable gardening friend and he loves it. He says it easily meets all his pruning needs. The hawkbill shape is perfect. Like any knife it has to be kept sharp so there is some maintenance.
