indistructable

This knife will batton vary tough wood with no problem. It's handle is very comfortable in hand, little short for choping but makes up for it in cuting power. Only thing I don't like is it will rust when I go kyaking. I love the sheath, I lash 550 cord thrue it horazonaly on the small of my back, And no one knows it's there.

ESEE-4 Excellence

I've been looking for a good quality fixed blade knife for about 6 months. I am a police officer at a small department and I have a chest rig for tactical callouts and active shooters. The knife needed to be a medium sized knife and have a MOLLE sheath. After checking out several knives including several styles from Gerber, CRKT, Cold Steel, SOG, Boker, Benchmade, Spyderco and others, I saw my partner's ESEE 4. The construction is top notch and the blade is fully protected from rust. The knife I choose will be carried a lot and used very little. The ESEE was small enough to fit on my rig but large enough to defend myself. I was interested in price vs use. I'm probably not going to use the knife enough to have to worry too much about performance of a higher end knife compared to a lower end knife. I chose the ESSE-4 because I think it's the best knife for the price. The package from KnifeCenter was also the best. Several companies sold the ESEE-4 but only had 1 carrying option. KnifeCenter gave me all the options available and the sales department was willing to work with me.

the "glock" of survival fixed blades?

-this knife seems a little on the small side. a survival knife needs to strike a balance between size/weight and function, but i wish the handle were a bit longer. -the rat 4 sheath doesn't come with a boot/pocket clip. i contacted rat about this and was told that some people have been able to modify their rat3 clip. given the small size of this knife, it would be nice to have a clip for it. -the blade is heavily powder-coated to prevent rusting. this may cause problems with sharpening beyond the exposed edge, if the knife is used frequently. -overall, this is a nice little knife. it shows good craftsmanship and attention to detail. i like the look of the green liners with the gray handle. oddly, this knife smells good.
