The search is over...

Let's just say this: the search is O-V-E-R. I live on an island surrounded by dense jungle and if you know your fire, jungle is THE hardest place to start a fire. But with this firestarter, hard to light tinder practically sets ablaze. Sure, sparking rods/firesteels will light fine tinder, but this thing ignites things that other firestarters can only dream of igniting. I'm talking about paper, trash, cups, etc. other things that need to be "prepped" before even considering taking a spark to it. Firesteels are fine, but this is hands down the best. Don't believe me? Try one out for yourself, and I promise you'll never buy another kind of firestarter again. P.S. Don't forget to scrape off the paint...rookie.

Great fire steel. Water tight capsule for storing tender. Compass is a plus as well. A must for any outdoor dweller.

It Really Works!

I gathered up some very dry grass material and placed it in a paper towel, struck the devise a few times and BINGO, I had a flame! This devise does not send out a shower of useless sparks but rather blobs of molten metal that remain active long enough to ignite your starter medium. it's just a "toy" right now, but you never know when it will be really needed in a crisis situation. Great devise to impress your grandkids. Just a further note: You need a sharp blade and a fair amount of pressure. I used on small kitchen paring knife that we purchased for under 10 dollars (they come in their own sheaf and are red or blue). That way you don't compromise a good pocket knife or similar in fooling around situation.

a neat design

I have been able to get water purification tabs and tinder quick into the main body with no problem. combine this with a whistle and folding knife on a lanyard and you have a reasonable and practical neck survival kit or small pocket survival kit.

It is by far the best on the market

I have several fire starters. A friend told me about this fire stater and I'm glad that I purchased it. It is by far the best on the market. The balls of spark last much longer than any other striker that I have.

Fire Kit

I've tried the Fire Kit now several times and can only say, Perfect! Very easy to use! I have filled a compass, some fishing hooks and tinder, as well as water purification tablets into the cavity, now I have a useful companion!

RAT firestarter

Excellent quality. Tough kit that includes waterproof space for tinder with a compass. Add a paracord lanyard and a knife; you've got most of what you need for a bad night in the woods.

Dang!!!

I have a Strike Force and a Blast Match fire starter and love them, but the Rat Cutlery Fire Kit fire starter is flat out amazing. I have started fires with the others, but this one starts a fire much quicker with the molten balls that come off when struck. Instead of just a flash of sparks, numerous glowing/molten balls come off that allow more time to catch a fire. The only thing I wish is that it was in a case with a striker similar to the Strike Force or Blast Match, but that's just me being picky because you can drop it in the mud, wipe it off, and it will still light you a fire as long as you have something to use as a striker (i.e. knife) which you probably carry anyway. The cavity is just large enough to store a wetfire starting tender in it which will make fire starting much easier.

ESEE Fire Starter

Excellent, starts fires with ease. It's bulky due to the capsule, but this allows you to store fire starting gear for those really wet days. I use this with my ESEE-5, looks really cool, a bonus on top of its already simply perfect operation.

Nice metal match

A piece of Wetfire tinder still in the wrapper fits perfectly inside the handle of this metal match. You might want to wrap a piece of string around it to make it easier to get out of the handle. Threads are high quality, the o-rings seal well. It's waterproof. The metal match rod is very thick, thicker than most; thicker than the large "Lightmyfire" match. This isn't a problem, it seems that it will be durable in use. One last warning: NEVER USE 550 PARACORD AS A NECK LANYARD.

ESEE Fire Starter

The fire starter is made very well and worth every penny. The compass was very cheap and non-liquid filled. I immediately replaced it with much higher quality luminous and liquid filled model.

Muy Bien!!

A great product and super pretty. I love the holder and how the survival rules are written on it. The only tiny draw back is its a little heavier than I thought and one would not be able to start a fire with one hand, apart from this its rock solid! Super recommended!!!!

Over-rated, and Over-priced

It looks cool, being a aluminum hosing with a O-ring. But unlike the review about it "putting out molten balls". The Strike Force puts out more molten balls to get your fire stated. The compass built into the handle is nice, but not worth the extra price or "coolness" of this item. I am going to order another Strike Force, and give this one away as a gift.
