Excellent budget offering from Reate

While I expected anything that had the name REATE on it to be good, I honestly didn't think that this budget offering (under $120 when purchased) would be as good as it is. Superb fit & finish, great action & looks. Razor sharp edge (of course) right out of the box on a perfectly centered Nitro-V blade and the milled Micarta w/red G-10 inlays looks fantastic. To me, the only drawback is the wonky pocket clip, which looks to be a pretty cheap folded stainless clip that IMO is not up to REATE standards. BUT... it is a budget knife, so a milled Ti pocket clip might be expecting too much. REATE quality at an affordable price - I highly recommend this knife.

Interesting Knife

I just received the Reate PL-XT knife from Knife Center with the black micarta handles and gold blade today, which is no longer available. I am a female and collect fixed and folding knives (I own over 400 of them) and always wanted a Reate knife but they were too expensive. I saw DCA showing off this knife during a recent video and back ordered this knife. The Reate PL-XT knife is very sharp looking w/ the black micarta handle and gold coated blade (I've never seen a gold colored blade b4), and has a sharp blade. This knife reminds me strongly of my BM Mini Adamas because of the thickness of the handle and blade, however unlike the Mini Adamas, this Reate blade does not readily flick out with the thumb stud action and is slightly sticky when trying to flick out. However, I think with few hundred flicks of the thumb stud, the action will be smoother. As a female, I usually buy medium sized knives but this knife seemed even too small for my medium sized female hand. I can't imagine a guy with a big hand being comfortable using this knife. Closing the blade with the pivot lock was interesting and pressing it down to unlock the blade was fairly simply and the blade dropped easily back into the body of the knife with no hesitation. All in all this is a neat look knife but because of the small size of the handle (which makes it a bit awkward to flip out the knife), the nitro-v steel, and slightly sticky action when using the thumb stud, this knife merits a 4 out of 5 rating for me.
