This one is part of my fixed blade collection. I was very impressed by the heft and balance of the knife, the handle material and the blade itself. It was sharp out of the box but was improved by by some sharpening on my part. The sheath is very thick and well made. I am very happy with my purchase !!

Not a Biden blade

I have at least one model of every Schrade knife made out of d2 toolsteel, except that ugly sheepsfoot with the guthook. As far as my use for knives go, I prefer a HARD steel that takes an edge and keeps it. I don't care so much about corrosion because I use my knives. They don't sweat in a crappy (the sheaths are truly awful, all of them) scrap of leather for years. THESE BLADES ARE CORROSION RESISTANT - NOT STAINLESS. Schrade was once a U.S. company that moved to China. In spite of that, it did not suffer the drop in quality normally associated with these moves. At least not as much. With the exception of this specific model, expect the stag handle scales to be cut off-center. In spite of the general shortcomings associated with Hunter Briben connections, there's not much that can ruin a D2 blade, as long as you remember, it's a knife, not a hammer or a pry-bar. 1)The Model 1085923/2202UH has a 2 1/2" drop point that I use for a everyday for everything from clipping cigars to cutting electric wire. 2) The 1085924/2203UH is basically the same with a 3 1/2" blade. I have a family of these for camping steak knives. 3) 1085925/2204UH has a 4" clip point blade. It's decorative, really. I don't really like clip points, personal preference. 4) This one I'm reviewing. Personally, I'd rate these knives all 5's, because I'd rather get or make my own sheath than start with an unground D2 blade blank. Superb

I have had one of these for about 6 months and I have done everything to it to try to destroy it. It keeps a keen edge after sharpening on diamond plates and it gets absolutely terrifyingly sharp. I literally chopped down a small tree with it using v shaped cutout and was still able to cut paper with it. Absolutely unreservedly recommended. The sheathe needed to have the strap stretched a bit with leather lotion. Not a big deal.

This would be a most useful knife for outdoors fishing or hunting. Was amused by the reviewer below who couldn't do the strap up - neither could I! But this is easily fixed in 5 mins by taking the strap out (which isn't rivetted) and reversing it through the slots. Now you will find it fits well. The factory assembler failed to notice this! Feels heavy due to the strong steel construction - not a bad thing. Impressive blade - skin or stab any game animal with this.

When I saw this knife made of D2 steel for 50 Bucks I couldn't pass it up. D2 is the finest steel for knives with blades under 6" in length in my opinion, but hard to sharpen with a HRC of around 60-62. This steel takes a razor's edge, and keeps it. This steel is for cutting, not torque, so if you intend to use it as a pry-bar, I hope you get hurt when the blade snaps. I took possession of my knife, inspected it and found it to have a respectable factory edge. The sheath seems to be an afterthought, but I was going to have a custom sheath made anyway. Now two it seems. The handle scales show no hairline gaps between it and the tang, and is solid After a 5-minute inspection period, my 15-year old decided that an early inheritance is in order, so I ordered another.

Schrade 1690TH Old Timer Heritage Fixed Blade 5" D-2 Steel...

Some videos back DCA did a YT presentation on the Schrade 1690TH Old Timer Heritage Fixed Blade & he stated that this D2 knife was a value packed knife for the money that comes with a high quality leather sheath & he was spot on the money with that assessment. I ordered this knife on March 26th & KC was ( out of stock ) at the time, however I ordered it nonetheless along with a CRKT " Ritual " Persian Folder ( in stock ). From the date of order to getting both knives in my hands was ( 16 ) days, however, once KC rec'd it from the supplier, my order arrived in ( 3 ) days... Yes, this knife comes from China & generally speaking I avoid them, however I made an exception here on both knives & so glad I did & it was worth the wait! The knife sports a full length shank with black/gray laminated wooden handles that do indeed fit my large hands perfectly, all ( 4 ) fingers & it has jimping for the thumb on a fairly thick blade top, i.e. just shy of an 1/8" thickness. The D2 blade itself came razor sharp out of the box & it easily cut through paper under it's own weight. The overall fit & finish of this fixed blade knife is quite good for a knife at this price point. It is a smooth transition from the wooden scales to the steel shank, both top & bottom, i.e. I can barely catch my fingernail on an almost perfect machine fit between steel & handles... Quite frankly, I wouldn't hesitate to dress & skin a deer with this knife, however, for the moment I have added it to my collection of knives & it proudly sits next to my Ka-Bar 1217 USMC Fighter knife. There was a time Schrade knives were made in the USA, however apparently that no longer is the case, that said, this knife is a beauty nonetheless & it didn't break the bank. Bill on the Hill... :~)

Sharp out of the box. I have no problems with sheath/strap. Nice ox blood leather, stitching straight, and strap fits fine. Handle is a little hard but ergonomic. Blade is awesome. Haven't seen anything better, with this steel, this style, this quality, at this price.

Great knife - but what's with the sheath?

The knife itself is great - I just got it! Sharp out of the box, very well polished, stylish and fun at the same time. The balance center is somewhere on the ridge between fingers, so it is probably not too ergonomic for the day carry, but for an occasional abuse it probably will do just fine - especially for the price! What is terrible though is that the loop on the leather sheath is so short, that the button cannot even close around the handle! So the loop is pretty much useless and one just better off taking it off completely or replacing it with some Velcro band or something - which will ruin the style for sure... Bottom line - no regrets getting the blade. But I am disappointed in the quality control at the sheath department.
