Great Little Hatchet
I bought this hatchet for motorcycle camping. I wouldn't carry it on a bicycle or backpacking as it weighs 'pert near 2 lbs. (23.3 oz.) and that's what I like about it. I didn't figure that out 'til I used it. When you strike with it, it has some extra "oomph" that you wouldn't get with a lighter tool. That, and the blade is as sharp or sharper than any other hatchet I've used. When you strike—the chips fly. Very satisfying. The handle feels good in the hand; very "grippy." I like it a lot. It'll hack through 2 1/2 to 3" hard wood (that you can't break with your foot) without too much work. Don't get a body part near that edge. I found out by accidentally grazing it. I got cut as if by a knife and that was after having used it for a good while. Fairly compact, it fits in my panniers quite easily. The sheath is a hard plastic with a snap fold that's perfectly adequate. The hatchet is actually better than I had hoped for. Quite happy with it.
