Good hawkbill
For the price and materials, this is a very solid hawkbill. I picked it up specifically for cutting weed roots in my yard. Out of the box, the blade was acceptably sharp. Due to the hawkbill shape, sharpening took a little more effort, but a ceramic rod and some practice got it where I wanted. The AUS-8 steel has held up respectably — even after digging into dirt and slicing through roots. After a few hours of work in the soil, and occasionally striking rocks, the edge dulled as expected. It’s still sharp enough to keep cutting roots, but no longer cleanly slices grass. The finger ring is well-sized, and the overall blade is lightweight with a minimalist style. My only gripe is the sheath — while retention is excellent and it holds the blade securely, it doesn’t allow much clearance for a paracord-wrapped handle. If you plan to use it as a neck knife or with an Ulticlip, you can trim off the belt clip portion to make room for paracord wrapping. Overall, it’s a great buy that performs exactly as expected.
