It's so much better than you think it is
This is a great utilitarian knife. It's a very useful blade shape for general purpose suited to all but the heaviest of tasks such as things you'd use a machete or axe for. To note the extreme ruggedness, the rear of the extended blade seats flat against a handle length steel spine for support, so the thing is very sturdy in a way few flip opens can be. Then there's the fact that it flips open one handed and locks into place making it a step more modern that anything else called a trapper except for cases trapperlock thats like 80-100. This is very similar but honestly I like it better visually, and the blade itself is something cool too if your used to an older trapper with no locking mechanism. It's exactly like that but they purposefully cut it to make it look "cool" and it works, too. As an unintentional but noted bonus, if you hold this pencil style like original trappers, the shallow in the handle for the thumb notch is exactly where your index finger contacts and makes for a solid feeling grip. It feels like a brush at work it makes tape and boxes effortless. Best knife for the price, try it.

A good hybrid
Back in the 80s I had the same blade but the traditional model which was two handed operation with the same liner lock as this loved this knife ,easy to sharpen , good quality and price .at that time flippers were unheard of and I thought this knife would be perfect with a single hand opening as it is now with a thumb stud and the pivot will loosen up a bit . My old knife I probably lost and replaced it with a Buck . However seeing as Schrade has upgraded this knife to a flipper it's a breath of fresh air like driving a nice old pickup truck with an automatic transmission. Buy one you will not complain about the $18.00 price tag .
