Old Timer

Just looked up my knife as I was cleaning and doing a edge honing. This knife was a gift given to me in 1980 and has been on hunts all over. Over 30 deer, 12 bear, 14 caribou and a single Moose gutted and used as ax with a rock and wouldn't leave on a trip without. SN# 246912 USA 153UH love it. Dave NH

Schrade an import value

I bought this knife for my nephew as a graduation present when he got out of Basic Training with USMC. We typically meet up at deer camp every year for a week of deer hunting. This Schrade knife is easy to maintain a razor edge. Yet cost is a fraction of what you'd pay for a knife built with so-called premium steel. It's a shame that some Americans feel badly about buying imported cutlery because this Schrade is a very well built knife. The design of this knife is perfect for the big game hunter. A good pointy tip for field dressing but enough belly for skinning chores as well. In summary, this knife is a KEEPER!

Yep like everyone says this knife sucks because the blade Is so dull that it is able to shave right out of the box! Yeah you guys are full of sh** if you think this knife sucks... I could say a lot about how people are stupid about saying Chinese knives suck but whatever that is for another day... and yeah great knife

Golden Spike super knife at a super price

This is a popular knife for hunting.or every day carry. It is big enough to get most hunting jobs done and not too big to carry everyday. Beautiful knife with a very nice leather sheath that includes a sharpening stone. Highly reccomend

Great Knife

As an avid hunter for around 40 years I've had, and still have, a lot of knives. I'm skilled at sharpening (a lot of ppl suck at it totally and get angry because their knife is dull, not the knife's fault folks, buy a good sharpening system) and my knives are all very sharp. This knife is always sharp enough to shave with. Literally, not figuratively. I test by shaing a bit of hair off the back of my thumb/wrist area. This knife also holds the edge very well. One season I used this knife to dress 4 deer, a bull moose, a cow elk and a calf moose without needing to do more to the edge than a couple strops on a diamond steel. And that only twice throughout (after the moose and the elk). My only complaint is that the handle on this was a "form fit" handle with the finger nothces on the bottom. That's fine if you never turn your knife upside down but when I'm field dressing it's sharp edge up throughout the majority of the process. I find those form fitted handles uncomfy so I removed it and replaced it with a piece of antler that fits beautifully sharp edge up or down. (Form fitted handles on hunting knives are a pet peeve of mine!). Also, the sheath for this knife was not great so I got a friend who does great leatherwork to make me one.

Bel Coltello

I received this from my Compare Luigi to take back for the rainy goose hunting season in Rapino, Abruzzi in provincia di Chieti. Well worth the investment. Stays sharp and durable. My EDC carry in Abruzzi, Perugia, and even Sicily, assuming the Carabinieri don’t confiscate it!

great value

While skinning a deer in the shed I dropped the knife on the cement floor. At that point there went the point about 1/4 " broke off. I was heart broken with the tip, had the knife many years. Wonder if I send it back will they replace the blade and for what cost?

I use at least two knives when dressing dear or elk. This knife meets my needs holds a good edge throughout the process. I have large hands the handle could be a little bigger. All in all a good product for what I wanted at an excellent price point.

Great deal on attractive knife- sharp too!

This Schrade Uncle Henry Golden Spike is a all around great knife, it was sharp out of the box, feels great and has a great weight. The leather sheath is heavy duty and the sharpening stone pocket is another plus! The online downside is that the grips really could look better, but still a great functional knife!

Uncle Henry

Lots of criticism about these being cheap knockoffs of the U.S. made Uncle Henry knives. However, they do use good steel, are well-tempered, and do hold an edge well. They are assembled well with real brass pommels and guards. The sheaths are well made, but not stitched as uniformly as the U.S. originals. While some say that the handles are cheap plastic, unlike the originals, this is not the case. Having carefully examined Uncle Henry knives in the 1980s, they also used faux antler handles made of Delrin, and while attractive, would not have fooled anyone that they were actually real stag material. Some of the Chinese stagalon handles show seam lines, and are not as pretty as the originals, but the material is the same. And, some handles look just fine. For the price, I think that they are good value.

Great all around knife.

Will only give this knife 4 stars because the company that made a great reputation for quality knives at good price has now moved everything to China. Design and sheath are great. Bought 3 of them to send to my boys that hunt. They all have nicer knives that they dont want to scatch up in the woods on a daily basis.

Bought on impulse

Very nice, personally I wouldn’t have done the “formed fir” but oh well. I bought this in Canadian tire and it has a pretty good edge i I shaved a bit of hair off the back of my wrist. Not bad I’ll update when I feel it it’s t good enough. 👍🏻

Nice package

I don't hunt. It does look good on the hip, though. I like the oxblood leather sheath with the pouch and stone. The handle is obviously not stag but looks tasteful with the brass accents. Blade is as good or better than you'll find on any other ~ $25 Chinese knife. So much to choose from in this price range. I think the sheath makes it a competitive choice.

Not like the original, but that's ok..

Reading that last review,i was amazed that any knife fan did not realize Schrade wasn't producing knives in the US anymore.I have the US made version in Hc steel also.No this model is nowhere close to the original US made one's,and that's why the price is like it is.But,for someone to write a review and say that this knife isn't made out of steel,is simply Ridiculous..The STEEL used in this knife is 7cr17mov stainless steel..440a's equivalent...Not the best of steel's,but there's ALOT of high-end knives that have been made out of this exact steel..I GUARANTEE i can cut flesh to the bone, and then some, with this knife..And for all those who think a knife MUST be shaving sharp OTB...My China made Schrade not only would shave arm hair OTB,it also could easily push cut Newspaper..I own plenty of knives with Much better grades of steel, that couldn't accomplish both of those tests OTB..Granted,this knife will require constant resharpening..But,that's a good thing..It gives the inexperienced knife owner the chance to practice their sharpening skills on a low cost knife..The handles are a plastic type material, and Schrade tells the buyer that in the specs of this knife..The last guy obviously didn't read a word about the specs of this knife..Who's fault is that??.This is not a high end knife, and shouldn't be compared to the US models..But if you're looking for a low cost knife,to use for cleaning game, this knife will do...It's a good basic starter knife for younger fans,or someone who's just got into knives...It's worth $25...

Don't know yet

I just bought this yesterday (Nov. 25, 2020). It was an impulse buy. So far it doesn't seem to want to take an edge, it didn't seem sharp when I bought it. I have to say that I would NOT have purchased it if I had known it was made in China. That is a shame but they brought it on themselves. Not the people, the Chinese government. After I've had it awhile I'll try to update this review.

I love mine but it's older and made in AMERICA

My Schrade 153uh is an amazing knife, but I dont think anyone should buy this one because it is made in china :(. chinese knives are almost always just cheap pieces of partially sharpened stainless steel and break pretty easily.

Very disappointed

Got the knife and was amazed to see it's a Chinese-made piece of nothing. The "Stag handle" is made of plastic. The blade is cheap metal, not even steel.
