Pros: Weight, Handle Material, Overall Quality, Blade Material, Sheath/Scabbard, Materials
Cons: Blade Sharpness
A bargin price for this beast.
My review is for the SCHF52M Frontier which is the same basic knife with different material scales on it. •This is a Very Large Full size, Heavy Fixed Blade Survival Knife. It is very heavy and feels incredibly stiff and strong in the hand You could chop through anything with this beast. This knife is a combination of the ESEE 5 and ESEE 6 knives. •Massive 0.230" thick, ½ High Sabre Grind blade is Hollow Ground and is very thick and strong behind the point tip due to the squared spine edges and having no swage. •The extra-long and large girth handle scales are full size, hand filling, contoured milled Micarta. •The blade spine has moderately squared off edges for fire steel striking. •Large thumb jimping on blade spine behind the ricasso is oddly placed. Jimping should have been placed on the spine above index finger choil for better control during push cuts. •Extra-large 1” diameter index finger choil at the ricasso for detail work. •Extended tang pommel drops at the heel for striking chores and serves as a rear handle bolster when chopping. •Large nylon sheath is well made and has two storage pockets for the fire starter and sharpening stone. •This knife should excel at stationary heavy field work. This is not a lightweight hiking knife! I hope the heat treating is done well enough for rough use. Time will tell.
