Super Assisted Open!

Just another EDC in my collection. Fit and finish are great, feels very stable in the hand. Scales feel good in the hand, can easily use it for lengthy tasks and not get uncomfortable. Looks great. Assisted open is super strong! Be sure to have a good hold on this knife as you push that thumb stud the blade whips out with force. That will change the more you open it, but initially use caution. Great safety feature allows you to lock it down to prevent accidental opening.

UPDATED REVIEW

I'm updating my review which I couldn't find here, maybe KC didn't post it. But after going on a rant and giving this knife 2*, I'm changing it to 5*!

My issue was not being able to open it without using two hands. But after I worked with it oiled it etc, I left it for a couple of days. I came back tonight to find a totally new knife. It opens with no problem, I was in shock. But SOG didn't let me down. I'm loving this knife and will not religate it to the shed. I'll put it in EDC rotation.

Sweet and Sharp

I've owned this knife since this exclusive was released and EDC it frequently. The original Aegis was borderline perfection...with upgraded steel and ergonomics, this Aegis AT is top notch! Of the new color configuration options, this orange exclusive is freaking sexy sharp! I have a thing for orange knives. This knife is perfect for EDC with it's deep carry clip. Works great in the outdoors, as this steel can take a beating. Assisted opening is buttery lightning, and ergos are great even with gloves on. Orange is easy to see in the woods, and just looks fantastic. This was a great buy!

I believe that I purchased this here, but I could be wrong. My first one lost a thumb stud after a week or two. It was replaced promptly and without difficulty. The thumb stud is attached via a compression mechanism. (Hence, the failure.) I was simply going to unscrew the left thumb stud and attach it to where the lost one wasn't. After a heat gun and twisting, its true nature was revealed. I have had no problems with my second. I like this one very much and can highly recommend it.

Not a big user of assisted openers as I prefer to one handed closing without a lot of movement so when this came out on sale and in orange it’s a worker. After seeing the angle which is needed for opening and a bit of oil,this comes out faster than most working class flippers can dream of. Very sharp and even grind ,not weighted down just a very good piece for the price. The way I’ve seen the blade peel out it’s no coincident they put a safety lock on it,I just don’t use it.

Great knife

This knife is a great knife it’s very comfortable to hold good steel and It did require a break in. But once you learn how to push the thumb stud at the right angle it opens very quick like almost like an automatic great build quality feels very sturdy no blade play.

Good knife, poor pocket clip screws

Received this knife as a gift. Fit and finish are great, blade came nice and sharp with no play in any direction. It does require a bit more pressure on the thumb stud than I was used to from other assisted openers, but something I got used to in less than a day. My only gripe with it is the screws used to secure the pocket clip (which is not recessed into the handle). The screws are a round type head and are not counter sunk, causing them to take up about half the usable space between the scale and clip, making it impossible for me to fit all the way into my pocket. If I use two hands, I can get it past the first screw head, but not the second. Need to figure out the thread pitch and length to get some different ones.

Not as good as I had hoped

Pros: Very sharp out of the box, D2 steel, handle large enough for my XL size hands. Good value for the price point. Cons: As others have said, it is difficult to flip the blade open, even though it has assisted opening. I am old, and my hands are not as strong as they once were, but it is hard to get the blade started moving. I would prefer a flipper tab to the thumb stud. I have yet to use this knife for any cutting jobs, but the blade is a bit thin for heavy work. My intention in buying this knife was field dressing deer. I think it would be excellent for that purpose and the orange handles should make it easy to find on the forest floor.

Well built

Overall decent knife. Fires out no problems there. Nice sharp D2 blade. Blade is about perfect size for edc tasks. Don't care for the extra safety spine lock so I don't use it. Handle is a little bigger than expected and takes up more pocket space than I wanted. Pocket clip screws are tall and restrict the knife from properly seating in the pocket. Wouldn't buy again or recommend it at full price but the sale price was reasonable so I give it 2.5 to 3 ⭐s

Cool knife, nice action, terrible grind

I like everything about the knife except the grind. There was a significant bite taken out of the tip section of my blade. I don't mind sharpening D2 and other hard steels, so not a big enough problem to cause me to return it, but I will not buy again. I received the knife with about a half inch section of the the blade, right side, just in from the tip and back towards the belly that looked like someone slipped while on the grinder and they sent the blade out anyway. Terribly disappointing. That area caused a blunt spot and brittle spot right where you need strength.

Not a fan of grip to blade ratio. Difficult to open if you push out instead of forward. Hard snap to the assist is pretty satisfying. The lock is awkward, not sure if it's supposed to also be used in open position, but mine doesn't seem to function that way. Hard to get it clipped to the pocket past the screw heads

Unfortunately I needed to return this decent knife. The thumb stud opening action just wouldn’t function correctly no matter the position I tried. Fit, finish, blade quality and materials were all fine, but if it can’t be opened as intended it needed to go back.

Great inexpensive two-handed opening knife.

It would seem, to me, that SOG needs to steep up their QC game a bit. You're either going to get a buttery smooth opening knife or your not. I, unfortunately, did not. Don't say that you were not warned. Good Luck...

Raging Disappointment

Things I would have wanted to know before buying this knife was the terrible open action with this knife. Shame on me for one of the times I didn't read reviews before I purchased this. I love SOG knives and nothing at all against KC, I've purchased a fair share of knives from them. Congratulations to the folks who said they had no problem opening the knife I guess you received a better knife. I love the color, size of the blade and handle of the knife. But this girnds/rubs when opening the knife, plus the thumb stud as many other people commented on seems to be in the wrong place. I admit, my hand is a bit weak from an accident, but I've got plenty of other knives that I have no issues with opening. I've oiled, worked the knife to try and break it in, 0 luck. I'm giving two stars just because I have other SOG knives that are awesome. This one i guess was a poor design, it happens. You need two hands to open it safely and the safety on this is a waste of time and not easy to use...why have it? I put it in the shed as a spare to have around for cutting string, boxes etc. Its definitely not an EDC.

Can't get past the difficulty of opening.

Purchased as a handy outdoors knife. I like orange or hi-vis scales for this, makes them harder to lose if you drop them. My first lock bar style knife as well. I like the design for keeping fingers out of the way when closing. That said, I'm not sure I'll actually use this knife for this purpose, or at all, as I'm not sure it's particularly safe to open. It's assisted, so once you get it started it springs open, just like it should. The problem is that it doesn't have a flipper, just the studs, and you need to put so much force on the studs to start it moving that most of the time I find myself pinching the blade or nicking my thumb on the blade as it opens when it finally decides to move. Opening it two handed is safe, at least, but the whole point of an assisted knife is to NOT need to use two hands to open or close. I cannot fathom why this knife was designed to be so difficult to open. It has a separate safety to prevent inadvertent opening, and the safety is quite effective and easy to use. The actual opening force could and should have been very light. A huge disappointment.

This knife wants to destroy my thumb

I must say I am disappointed in this knife, and it is all because of the opening mechanism. I have several assisted openers, and this is the only knife I can't open one-handed. I believe it would be a lot easier if the thumb studs where placed a little futher down on the spine, but as it is now it is almost impossible to open using the thumb studs. I have seen the youtube videos on how to open it correctly, but on my knife the angle of push matters not, it requires a LOT of pressure to open. I have tried to lubricate and open and close the knife a lot of times to see if it will brake in, but so far no luck. When it is open the knife is excellent, but as I am forced to open it two handed this is a knife that will not see much use .

Absolute flop! Don't buy.

I received this as a free promotional item, and let me tell you, don't buy it! Nothing against SOG, Knifecenter, or you, but this is a terrible knife. I'm very experienced with all kinds of knives from crkt and kershaw, to reate, Chris reeve, hinderer, and customs. The Pros: the blade is a good shape , good material, and ground well. The pocket clip is fine and the screws are T8. The color is pretty good. Lockup is solid. The Cons: the thumbstuds are sharp which is only a problem because the stiff, gritty opening action fights you, which is surprising for an assisted knife. There is an audible scraping sound as you pry this thing open. I did a complete disassembly to find the grinding and it is just a part of the construction, possibly coming from the secondary safety lock, which has its own detent ball. All of the body hardware is T6, including the pivot which is too small for repeated torque. The pocket clip screws are sticking up enough to catch your pocket. The secondary lock digs into your hand when you hold the knife. Reassembling the knife is difficult because of the number of parts and construction style. The lanyard and lock bar toggles are made of a very soft and easily chipped frn material. I literally won't even regift this to someone I hate. It's that bad. If you got it for free, it could live in the open position and sit on your workbench as a shop knife.
