Caution about sheath included 4-2-21

It's a great knife, don't get me wrong. My experience with the Kydex sheath provided by SOG in the box is that it isn't safe. It takes too much force to get the knife out of the Kydex sheath, posing a risk of injury. Way too much force. Now I have no working knowledge of Kydex, so for me it isn't fit if it has to be modified to not pose that risk. I have a leather sheath that happens to work so I'm happy. And as to the mounting hardware, the holes don't line up with the sheath as illustrated in the instructions. And instead of two flat head screws and two tapered, there are four tapered screws so the screws are just plain wrong. Two sets of two of different lengths are needed because of molle and belt carry. It is the belt mount which needs flat head screws for torque. Sheath DOA

The caution regarding the sheath is warranted, although it should not deter someone who is willing to remedy this with some fine sandpaper. Once you have decided on right or left hand carry you can then make one slight improvement by rounding off the side you push the knife with your thumb. this lets the knife come forward a small amount which allows the guard to bypass the hard hold within the sheath.I also gave a light sand with 1000 grit sandpaper to round edges of the sheath. This done with thumb pressure then knife releases cleanly, but if someone attempts to pull it from your sheath it won't go anywhere. The knife is perfect for me, I just rounded the jumping somewhat as it was too rough for my hands, but i am glad it came pronounced enough that I had the option to leave it rough for if I was wearing gloves or I was younger or tougher. I find this knife to be one of my 2 perfect knives of this size that I have. My other one is not carried on this platform so I won't advertise it. WLB
