Good knife

The knife opens and unlocks a little stiff out of the box, but depending on use, it loosens up. Mine felt fine after about a week. Great steel, great customer service, and great prices. Would recommend!

Rough around the edges, but gold with some care

When i first received the knife, it felt free very sharp around the edges and uncomfortable to hold. I modified it slightly by taking it apart and smoothing out the scales and frame with like a 600 grit. I added a rougher grit, i think 300 to the meat of the handle, then accentuated the grooves of the scales using a saw blade. Furthermore, the steel frames didn't match and i had to chisel down one of them then sand it to match the other side.  God what an EDC. Ever since this knife is one of my daily go-to's. Fast AF, and solid like you wouldn't believe. I was initially disappointed that i had to do so many modifications to make it work, but for $100 it's a solid platform

Great EDC knife!

S35VN steel looks fantastic with almost a two-tone look due to the grinds and is very sharp out of the box. I also like the look of the laminated carbon fiber over the G-10 scales. A three-inch blade and a full, four-finger grip are a perfect size for my EDC. I added a snake knot lanyard to the clip to help pull it out of my pockets but otherwise, nothing added. Am really impressed with SOGs new direction and am looking forward to buying a Kiku XR next.

Great everyday cutter

I use this daily for cutting paper, cardboard, plastic and caution tape. The size is perfect for me and most of the knives I carry are in this length and I love deep carry pocket clips and this has one. It comes with a nice factory edge that held up for quite a while before needing sharpened. The material and build is very good quality. It feels solid on open and close and the blade sits almost dead center. The action is sweet and extremely satisfying. Very simple little flicks of the wrist and the blade glides in and out with a satisfying snap to let you know its in place. This was my first SOG but definitely not my last. Highly recommend.

Terminus? Terminally!

This is a great knife. Upon first getting it I thought the action was super stiff and wondered why they put a flipper on it at all. Then I used it for a day and by the next day it was flicking open super smooth hardly any effort. The XR lock is really good just as good as benchmade axis locks in fact there's more surface area on the XR lock making it more ergonomic than the axis locks in my opinion. The premium steel and nice handle material is just icing on the knife cake if u will 😉. Anyway I like this knife ALOT and I'm glad I caught it on sale! Btw it was hair shaving sharp out of the box and the carry clip is 👌 a-ok with me.

Awesome EDC

What can I say. This knife is awesome. There is nothing to complain about. S35VN steel, carbon fiber overlay with G10 scales. I found the flipper tab to be ok, even though others dislike it. It disappears in the pocket with a ultra deep carry pocket clip. It is my new edc. I will recommend this knife to anyone

Great for cutting quick tasks. Great blade shape for slicing. Its 80 dollars for s35vn steel. The knife works great for most things.

Decent Value

Got this recently after a back order. I had read good reviews online and seen vids reviewing the Terminus. All in all, she is a good value. I have spend as much on Chinese D2 knives. She has a much different feel than a Benchmade despite the similarities in the lock. I really have only one complaint and that is that the detent is terrible. I am hoping it breaks in well over time.

Detent had me worried out of the box

Thought it would be super fidget factor, but the detent was real hard out of the box and I was disappointed initially. Broken in nicely now and i love it. Carries better than my other knives of this size and is rock solid to use.

Great EDC

This is one awesome knife! I have seen other reviews commenting on problems with the ease of opening - I did not have this problem at all. It was lightning fast right out of the box. I guess there could be random manufacturing or finishing issues with mass-produced knives every now and then. Caution: you will not want to put this knife down! This is a super fidget-friendly EDC that you will find yourself opening and closing for hours on end. The blade is sharp, the handle is comfortable (for me) but the pocket clip has shredded a couple of my pockets. If the clip was smooth and did not have the "SOG" cut-out I would have rated this knife 5 stars. I'm hoping SOG will provide a replacement clip to resolve this issue.

Great knife with some nit picky flaws

This knife for about $80 is a great value. S35VN blade steel, stylish carbon fiber/G10 handle and great action. XR lock works great and somehow they made it work with a flipper. But, there are some nit picky things about this knife that’s a bit annoying. The flipper tab is dangerously sharp, its a real finger tenderizer. Pro tip with this knife, make sure your thumb is nowhere near the XR lock when deploying, it causes the blade to lock shut and almost impossible to flip. I did this a few times and the blade locked up and my finger slipped off the sharp flipper tab giving me a nasty angry abrasion. I had to file it down significantly to get it somewhat comfortable. Second, the thumb stud on this thing is next to useless. The detent is so strong that you have to mash your thumb on the sharp stud to deploy it. I wish they just did away with it. Last the pocket clip is ultra deep carry to the point that there is zero area for you to grab the knife to pull it out. I find the only way grab hold is the clip itself which causes it to pinch tighter to my pants. But, with all that being said for $80 this is a great buy. I still recommend it because of the price.

A few tweaks and it's perfect

I waited until I've had the knife a month to write the review so I had time to break it in so to speak. When I first received the knife I was not initially taken with it, the flipper was almost impossible to use, the clip was much too tight and actually broke when I tried to pull it back a tad so I could actually get the knife in my pocket, and if the flipper was hard to use, the thumb studs were completely useless. Fast forward a month: after a lot of use, some unicorn lube, and a minor pivot adjustment, this knife flips out perfectly. The XR lock, the only thing I really liked out if the box, has broken in a tad and is even better. New clip came in from SOG and it was the right tension. And the most important part, I removed the thumbstuds and filled the hole with an epoxy and luminous powder mix so if I drop the knife in a dark space I can easily see the glowing dot. Everything else was great out if the box. The scales were finished evenly and grip was good. The grind on the blade was great, and it came super sharp and hasn't needed so much as a touch-up to still be able to go through paper like it isn't there. The jimping does seem a tad sharp, but not dangerously so. If you asked me right out of the box if I would recommend this knife if have said no, bit now that everything has broken in it's smooth and reliable as can be.

so close to great, but they cheaped out on the finishing

I used it as an EDC, and I liked the size, weight, deployment,... But yes, every part of the blade is sharp, not just the cutting edge. The flipper tab and the thumb jimping are _meant_ for you fingers, and they're sharp. Also, the omega springs... Both of mine broke w/in a few days. Benchmade springs don't fit, you have to go the warranty route. I got a civivi button lock for while it was out, and I haven't changed back to this.

SOG Terminus XR Flipper

I just got delivery of this knife yesterday. My hope is to use this as my daily carry due to it's "smaller" size. It's a great size for my generic every day use, it's slender and has a GREAT pocket clip and the grip of the handle is really good too for a smaller knife. The knife arrived sharp, it takes a little extra effort to shave hair off my arm but nothing to complain about. The things that I don't care for, like others have said in reviews is arrived really hard to open by using both the rear flipper and the thumb stud. The only way I can open it is by releasing the pressure of the lock and flipping it open. My hope is that it will loosen up and become much easier (As others indicated). One other thing I noticed is the corners of the G10 doesn't have smooth edges, mainly at the ends by the pocket clip, so as I've tried to loosen the action, it rubbed my palm raw. A little 220 grit sandpaper helped but it's a missed detail in production. I gave the rating of the knife a 3 due to the action stiffness and the sharp edges. If the action doesn't loosen like others have said I would drop it to a 2 or even a 1

Be prepared...

So, first things first. Based on what I've read and what I can confirm- Yes, The spring on one side will probably break. Took mine 3 weeks to go and just as a previous person stated, one of the two springs broke in half. I've not found any replacement springs online, only Benchmade springs which I'm going to purchase some to attempts a self repair as I can't be bothered with the warranty process. S.O.G. just won't get anymore of my money. It's commonly said the thumbstuds are useless because of the pressure required to deploy the blade. I found this to also be true but after the 2nd week or so of breaking in the action I could deploy via non-dominant hand via thumbstud or flipper with little effort. I don't really recommend deploying the fun looking way with the lock buttons. In the past week the action became so smooth I could deploy with pulling back one side which felt much more natural, but I think this could have contributed to the one spring breaking (I'd read this but didn't heed the advice). Last negative (ish) would be the sharpness/retention of the blade it's self. It came moderately sharp, certainly needed a slight touch up out of the box. Quick few strokes on the bottom of a coffee cup or edge a car window gets it close enough in a pinch. But in comparison to the CJRB I've had over 2 years the S.O.G. doesn't quite compare. Both D2, but the S.O.G. has needed upkeep weekly to keep a sharp edge while I could go months without sharpening my previous EDC. That all said, I still love this knife. Feels fantastic in hand, jimping is as perfect as I could ask for (seriously, it aligns with my grip like it was custom for my hand). Handle material is a fantastic balance of smooth but grippy, even with sweaty hands. Fit is great in hand, really feels like a true EDC that you could really count on for a long time ('cept the lock sadly). Super solid feel/weight, STURDY for such a small guy (but not too small even with my pinky slightly off the end of handle it feels solid). I have confidence in the overall construction for sure. Bottom line, out of all my current knives I enjoy carrying this the most. I only wish I'd gone a different route steel-wise and that it came with some replacement springs or at least access to them without such a hassle. Fingers crossed that I can find replacements that will fit and last longer than several weeks. It isn't terribly hard to disassemble but it could be for someone inexperienced/non-mechanically inclined. I tore mine down today and only needed a T6 and T8 and tweezers, took about a half hour to take down and reassemble going into it blind.

Over rated

This is the first time I have complaints about a pocket knife, the pocket knife came very hard to open and operate (after opening and closing it for two days the action softened) the grips have sharp corners, the tip of the clip pocket hurts the hand, it is difficult to remove it from the pocket. Compared to other similar lower priced pocket knives these perform better out of the box. It is a nice pocket knife but I expected better quality from a reputable company. It is a well constructed knife and is very sharp but it lacks finesse.

Poor quality control

I bought this thinking that it'd have everything that I need. It checks off good steel, compact size, single-hand operation, and deep pocket carry. Unfortunately it's all wasted with very poor quality construction. The knife is NOT comfortable to hold nor operate. Edges of the handle and general design are very sharp. After fidgeting with it for like an hour or so, my hand is still raw from handling it. The carbon fiber scales on one side don't even match the size of the skeletonized frame underneath, and its edges go past it. This makes for yet another sharp edge that cuts into your hand when you grip the knife. Very disappointing for a nearly $100 knife. My Sencut Crowley flipper is way more comfortable to hold and was almost half the price. Also the flipper doesn't fully deploy the knife. Even after loosening the pivot, it still takes a flick of the wrist in conjunction with flipper tab just to open it.

Buy a $300 knife instead - unless your time is worth nothing

Lock bar function is very rough. Decided to take it apart to smooth Lock Bar surfaces myself. Need a T6 Torx = $30 for Wiha bit set. Steel frame on both sides has a narrow slot for the Lock Bar. Need a small carbide cutter for Dremel to clean up rough surfaces. Reassembly must be done in precise order, took 2 hours. Apply correct grease and lube. Lock bar springs are left and right specific. Leave 3 frame screws and blade pin cap barely snug so you can adjust alignment to center the blade. Gradually tighten the blade pin cap to remove blade sloppyness. Do not over tighten or the blade will bind and bearing surfaces will be damaged. Took another 2 hours for adjustments. It is still not perfect but I am not a knife smith. Neither is SOG. After all that I still have $100 knife that works OK. Would have been better off to buy a $300 knife that I like. SOG - clean up the 2 slots BEFORE you assemble this knife - or do not build or sell this product. All my Civivi flippers run fine.

The spring is a serious flaw, even a security concern

Having this knife for less than 2 months, I was starting to enjoy the XR Lock, when suddenly one of the springs broke in two. This is a serious flaw in design/materials, now the bar that locks the blade in position is not straight, I lost all the confidence in using this knife, won't use it any longer. What a waste of money and of S35VN steel.
