Making a good knife even better
I have a regular Manix 2 with the combo blade, and while that has been an excellent knife, I've wanted a FFG variant for a while. When I saw this one, I had to have it. It is lighter than the original Manix 2, owing to the blade grind and the milled out liners. (Original has solid liners, it is notably heavier in the hand.) This knife came reasonably sharp right out of the box, and was easily touched up with a ceramic stick to "scary sharp." The locking mechanism was quite stiff when I first got the knife, but a little bit of playing with it got it broken in nicely. Now it opens quickly and isn't too difficult to get closed. It rode around in my pocket today, and I was working outdoors in the 95 degree weather. At various points I pulled the knife out of my pocket and noted that the blade was covered in sweat. No signs of tarnish were evident on the blade at the end of my shift, so I think this knife is at least as stain/corrosion resistant as other Spyderco steels. (I've had good luck with Spyderco steels in terms of this, much moreso than some of their competition.) I honestly can't think of anything bad about this knife, or any "cons." I like the updates to the Manix 2 design, and I like the steel they've used for this sprint run. Highly recommended knife.
