Sharp, but beware

I love this knife, bought another one for fishing. But, beware that the hookbill blade takes some getting used to. I have cut myself more with this knife than with any other and its never dull.

Great Knife

I got this knife as a backup edc blade for my Native. I went with the H1 because on weekends I spend most of my time around the water and need a knife that I don't have to worry about. Overall, I'm very impressed with this knife. It is much thinner (the handle) than I expected and almost feels like it's not even on your person when you're wearing it. It carries tip up, but because of the strong detent I can carry it IWB without having to worry. My only slight observation, and this may be for a number of reasons, is that I find it a bit pricey when compared to other spydercos (like the native for instance). The Native is A LOT of knife for the money, and only costs about $4 more than this one. Overall I'm very satisfied, and this blade should serve its purpose great as a backup edc/last ditch SD knife. Couldn't be happier with the transaction, I recommend this knife to anyone who needs a rust proof edc with an awesome hawkbill.

Great little knife

Fits great in the hand. Just the right size for a hawkbill blade.

Rustproof utility goodness

I plan on using this in the garden this summer. I have an older Merlin that I've been using but I like that the H1 won't rust.

Good Blade, Poor Handle

I usually don’t write reviews and have purchased numerous knives from the KnifeCenter.com and have been satisfied with my purchases. The exception is this knife; the Spyderco C106PBK Hawkbill Blade. With respect to the positive attributes of the knife the hawk bill (hooking) blade is superior. I have had a lot of experience as a sailor and can verify that this blade is sharp, cuts through rope and line with ease. The blade sharpness, curve, and thickness is a nice feature if you’re a fisherman, sailor, or outdoor person who is in need of something to cut line quickly. The difficulty with this knife is the handle; it is small, cheaply made plastic like substance, doesn’t match the shape and demeanor of the blade, and feels as if it could slip out of your hand at any time. I also think it is a safety hazard as the small size of the blade could cause a person to overreach thereby having their hand on the sharp base of the knife. With a more secure and more substantial handle the overall performance of the knife would match the performance expected from active usage. Spyderco needs to pay attention to this aspect of design to insure a functional product. In sum, great blade, lousy handle! I’m returning it ASAP.
