My first Spyderco
I have wanted a Spyderco for a long time, and the Delica definitely lives up to the hype. I was able to get a good price during the holiday sales, and it was still a bit pricy, but Spyderco is worth it. The CPM Spy 27 is razor sharp, as I found out closing it and got a tiny cut. I have only been opening mail and packages so far. The bi-directional texturing on the handle gives great grip, is comfortable to the touch, and doesn’t feel plasticky. It’s nice and lightweight, and the pocket clip is very good. There is no blade play, and it is centered. I have two issues. For one thing, it is very stiff. I put a little oil on it, but it didn’t help. Unfortunately, I fractured my wrist, so there will be no spydie flicking for a while. The other thing is the back lock. It is very hard to press down to release the blade. I have arthritis, but I think it should be easier to press. All in all, I love having a Spyderco, and am glad I got it. If you have issues with your hand strength, you might want to look for something with an easier opening mechanism such as a button lock. Note: I originally wanted a smaller knife such as the Dragonfly or Baby Banter 2 to carry easily. I got the Delica because it was about the same price as the Dragonfly. The Delica is just a little too big, for me at least, to carry around. Getting a better value kind of defeated the purpose. Get what will work for you, even if it’s not the best bang for your buck.
