Strictly self defense.

Chance are you're familiar with Spyderco, their combination of quality at an affordable price, innovative design and ease of use is why you probably already own one of their knives. In terms of build and materials the Matriarch 2 continues along these lines. VG10 is an outstanding steel and the fibreglass reinforced nylon handle is lightweight but textured enough to prevent slips. The design is where this knife veers away from the EDC knives that Spyderco does so well. Firstly if you're used to a dragonfly size knife you'll be surprised at the size of the Matriarch, obviously Knifecenter lists the length but I was still surprised to see how much room the handle provides. Secondly (and perhaps most importantly) the blade - it's aggressively curves forward towards the tip and is features Spyderco's serrations down almost it's entire length. Unless you saw rope for a living I'm not sure why you would EDC this knife, there are better knives out there for that, but if you want to carry a knife for self defense and want something unobtrusive the Matriarch 2 is perfect. You don't notice it in your pocket, it's well built, and although I thankfully haven't had to use it for it's designed purpose - I'm certain it won't let me down if that day comes.

Self defence Ripper

Just to prove how much I like this knife: I own two (a brown FFG sprint run and a regular) and have gifted one to a friend. It rips like nobody's business. For an self defence knife, it depends on gross motor skills, which means that you will be able to use it, even if you're panicking, pumped full of adrenalin or hurt. If you are looking for a everyday carry knife, maybe you should look elsewhere. My wish is that they would bring out another plain edged version, as this would be an absolutely wicked knife, with added EDC functionability.

The Matriarch2 is truly the Queen Bee of self defense!

Spyderco has taken their original design of the Citizen and thickened the blade w/ with a razor seration in a way that still retains the lightness of a feather. The clip will meet anyone's needs whether left or right handed, or prefer to open it quickly by the patented Spyderco thumb hole, tip up or down. A fine grip with a Web like pattern, and the Spyderco seal in the center of both sides of the handle. Bottom line, this blade is a beast. Her tip is very fine, able to peirce through all layers of clothing, and once she penitrates, this hawk billish blade will follow though as deep as the offender deserves, especially on the down stroke. Intimidation is not a big enough word when describing the Matriarch. A deadly, functional knife that won't stop slicing until you do. No tactical training is required to use this model, but be careful when you are figuring out what feels good while handling... you will get bitten if you aren't careful. Spyderco does it yet once more. Do some research on the Citizen, the model that the Matriarch2 was based on. A great history, a great knife, and a stellar company. I'very had to rely on them and their products many times and haven't been let down once. The warranty and repair department can and will help you in anyway possible, providing you don'the use you knife for anything else but what it was designed for. Take care of a Spyderco knife, and it will assuredly take care of you.

Perfect example of type

KCREVIEW Very sharp. Very. Good size in hand. Good general purpose, or pretty clearly defensive. It looks mean, but not suited to thrusting. Slashing, however, whole different game. Replacing one I lost. Very happy with this knife.

Nasty

* Very light * Nicely made * Good for lefties as well as righties (reversible clip) * Insanely sharp * Useless for everything but self-defense (but I don't care) The blade is very sharp, and very thin. Spyderco isn't kidding when they tell you it isn't a utility blade. The Spyderhole isn't really chamfered, so it grips your thumb like mad (a plus). The back lock isn't my favorite, but you won't be whipping this one out all the time to clean your fingernails, so it doesn't really matter (and the back lock is simple, reliable, and light). It's a fearsome blade.

This knife is the best Bartenders tool you can own!

I've been bartending for 17 years and I've had the brown Sprint version matriarch as well the First edition now I'm buying the 2 and I've got to tell you it's the best bartending tool out there it does everything. On the very rare occasion that I leave my knife home for some reason, it ruins my night. you can pop bottles, you can stab anything with it cherries, extract broken corks, the list goes on. I know some of you guys are wincing right now thinking of me using this as thing as a bar tool but I'm telling you it's the best tool I've come across and I tell everybody Bartender I know to get one.

Well-built and Solid Self Defense Knife

I've been carrying this knife around for a while now, obviously very discreetly. As others have pointed out, this is not an EDC knife, it's only real purpose is self-defense, and fortunately I haven't had to use it. It arrived very sharp, and after a few days of play, it opens and closes easily with one hand. The back lock works great, but I've had to learn to keep my fingers out of the path of the blade when closing as just gravity can swing the blade near to fully closed when the lock is released. The handle is comfortable, though it doesn't have the premium feel of heavier or more expensive materials. Still, with the steel liners it feels solid and there's plenty of room for even very large hands. This is a nasty-looking knife, and while I think a knife used in self-defense is best hidden until deployed, I would imagine just seeing this blade would give pause to anyone contemplating violence. If you're looking for a self-defense blade, this should fit the bill.

This knife alone by the look of it makes most people back away. It is razor sharp out of the box and you will not be disappointed if you decide to buy this knife.

This blade cuts it!

Sharp and powerful, rips through rope and webbing. Shreds cardboard. I expect it will be a chore to sharpen.

Not an everyman's knife

Let's be honest I don't carry this knife on me always, nor do I carry it as an everyday carry. As an EDC I carry a bright yellow spydie dragonfly, a nice and people friendly knife. But this one I tend to have around me, when stuff can go sour or goes sour. It doesn't as much cut as it rips. So it is excellent for rope, wire and clothing ( and because of the upswept tip, it can be used as an EMT knife, which is the way I use it in a professional capacity ). But it has bit me once of twice. It's a very unforgiving knife (even more so in the sprint brown version, I tend to think). So if you are planning on buying this knife, think twice. If you are a collector, it's quite a striking knife, buy it. If you work in emergencies, it can be a lot of help, buy it. If you are looking for a martial arts knife that will adapt to about any style, buy it. But if you don't belong to the previous categories, I don't see how this knife will help you. Buy something more people friendly. Yours sincerely

Raptor Claw

This is a great knife, this will be in my pocket more often than not. The blade is razor sharp, centered, and looks intimidating. I don’t buy knives with FRN handles, except from Spyderco. They have perfected the super light, ultra grippy, hidden steel liner FRN handles. It Spidey flicks open, there’s no blade play, and lock up is rock solid. The lock back design works well and the lock is easy to disengage. Love It!!
