A Unique Place

This is another incomparable knife from the knife company most deserving of a large shimmering star on their fridge, and a bottle of fine scotch for the owner, Sal Glesser. I've made the perilous journey from starter-knives to six hundred dollar customs (and would have ascended the six thousand range given the pocket-book) but return again and again to Spyderco. I'd been viewing the beautiful titanium Chaparral for awhile, but kept avoiding purchase because of the "gentleman's folder" misnomer. No doubt this is a beautiful knife, and it would fit in well at the Annual Fundraising Dinner for the local charity, but I don't think it has received the attention it deserves-- In fact, I think it's a silver wolf in sheep's clothing. When I first received the knife my knee-jerk reaction was to send it back. Until I picked it up. The knife occupies a sparse ground between the Dragonfly and the Sage 2. It is a smaller yet unique version of the Sage 2, but not quite as diminutive as the Dragonfly. It feels like perfection in your fingers, four of which, snuggly placed, contact both handle scales. Chocking-up leaves room to spare at the butt end, and the scales are beautiful in a way different from what one expects from the available photos-- the highlight is not so much the fine machine lines inside the triangular sections, but the way in which the triangles are placed at a multitude of varied angles which give a wonderful tactile feel underneath your thumb-- this was pleasantly surprising and also alleviated the worry of the occasional little pocket scratch marring the overall aesthetic effect of the knife. The knife does not feel fragile in any way, and the materials-- titanium scales and CTX-XHP blade-- lead me to believe that it is tough enough to face a hard days work. This knife is Cary Grant with a stiletto behind his back. If you're hesitating, don't. It'll cut you to the core.

Unbelievably beautiful.

Perfect size for a small carry folder. Flawless fit and finish. Fantastic blade steel. Beautiful design. This model takes the Chaparral to an entirely new level. There is not a single thing I don't like about this knife. This is a great slicer that will do a whole lot more.

Amazing

I received the chaparral TI about 2 weeks ago and so far I love it. I have never spent this much on a knife before so I had some buyers remorse while it was being shipped. Once I got it though, all that trepidation went out the window. It is a classy looking folder that is a great conversation piece, not to mention it maintains the spyderco functionality we've all come to love. The biggest surprises were how thin the blade is (not a bad thing…) and how light it is. I'm using it as my EDC and it works well for boxes, envelopes, plastic wiring, etc. One thing I've noticed is that, well when you cut tape, you often get that goo residue on the blade. With this, that goo comes off much easier than with other knives I've owned. Overall great buy. Spyderco has yet to fall short of my expectations.

A perfect gentlemen's knife

This knife checks all the boxes as the perfect gentlemen's knife. A nicely faceted handle in titanium, a right sized and shape blade of CTS-XHP steel. A very secure lock back. A secure grip with a narrow easy to carry pocket knife. Taste in knives from one person to the next can vary greatly ... this knife for my intended purposes is simply a ten.

A very nice knife

This is my first spyderco. Coming from using zero tolerance as my daily carry knives, i wanted something that was smaller, but of equal quality. This knife doesn't disappoint! The fit and finish are amazing, solid blade lock up, and excellent blade steel. The machining of the scales is awesome, and the jimping on the thumb ramp and choil provide grip without being uncomfortable.I took a chance on the lockback design, but the release being located in the middle of the knife allows for one handed close (although a bit tricky.) My only complaints are minor. The wire pocket clip has much more movement in it for my taste, and seems a bit on the flimsy side. Also, the blade sharpness out of the package reminds me of a low cost gerber.
