Nice Improvement over the original Rubicon
After owning the original Rubicon for some time, I finally caved and bought the Rubicon 2. I always liked Peter's designs and this one is a classic, definitely improved over the first iteration. The grip of the carbon fiber scales is a nice touch and I feel like I can use this knife for harder cutting tasks than the first. The original was a beautiful piece, maybe too beautiful, while the Rubicon 2 is built for work. Love the shape, flipping action, ergonomics, and overall design. Would highly recommend to anyone!
Beautiful little knife, love it. I was a little apprehensive about buying a Spyderco made in Taiwan but I was pleasantly surprised when I received it. Excellent quality, very smooth opening using Spyderco round hole or flipper, great idea to have both.Razor sharp out the box. Handle looks good but I found the Carbon Fiber / G10 edges to be a little sharp on the edges, this was easily rectified with 1200 Water Paper. Absolutely no play in the blade, lockup very secure.
The rubicon 2 is a really sexy knife, it just oozes great looks and user ability. It G10 carbon fibre handle scales are the bomb and are ridged and very inflexible adding to the frames ruggedness and then to top it off you have the Titanium frame which has been drilled out to further aid it’s lightness. On the flip side the ball bearing pivot system makes it feel like it’s riding on ice it’s just that glassy smoothness that you’d come to expect from a bearing insert system. The only down side about this knife and it’s why I don’t buy Chris Reeve sebenza knives is because the lock does not have a hardened insert and the blade steel is harder than the titanium. The steel lock face causes the titanium lack bar stick in turn causing the lock face on the titanium to wear out very quick and then the knife becomes unsafe and unusable until it’s been fixed. I’m very surprised Spyderco went down this path because it’s only going to cause a headache for both them and us spidey fans but in truth had I actually known that this didn’t have a hardened insert on the lock bar face I probobly wouldn’t of purchased one but still I’m very happy I got one on Black Friday. But the rest of the knife is utterly gorgeous. My next knife is either going to be a vollutton or para 3 or paramilitary 2 in Maxamet - which one do you think I should get because I can’t chose ?
