Slicer ... M390 ... Italian

Didn't truly understand what "great slicer" meant until this little gem of an Italian knife. Also have a tiny, titanium prybar on my keychain ... to rip, gouge and pry, saving the M390 blade for slicing. I like this blade shape for an EDC so much I now look for it in other knives. The Pattadese is big enough to get the job done, comfortable to use, yet innocent-looking and non-threatening for any business or social venue. If I should lose this one, would hope they're still available at KnifeCenter.

Good for what it is

I don't think this knife would be for everyone, but if you're looking for a lightweight, medium-sized slicer, the Pattadese is excellent. The blade is thin and comes to an acute point, so it's not going to stand up to a lot of abuse, but it's perfect for small, precise work. The handle has a comfortable shape and is just the right size for my medium-large hands to get a full four-fingered grip without overlapping the little flaired portion at the end of the handle. The G10 scales are milled smooth, which means they aren't as grippy as they would be with some texture, but again, this isn't the knife you would want to reach for in a driving rain storm on your deep wilderness survival hike, and even smooth G10 provides a pretty solid grip, so I'm fine with a little decreased function in exchange for style. Ultimately, the Pattadese is a heavy-duty gentleman's knife or a light duty work knife, and so far it's performed very well in those roles. It's hard to go wrong with full flat ground, Spyderco heat-treated M390. The only minor complaint I have with this knife is that the when its closed the Spyderhole, and the corresponding notch in the handle that allows access to the liner lock, are located somewhat farther down the handle than on most Spyderco designs. Also, the handle covers the hole slightly when the blade is closed. These two things make it harder than usual to get one's middle finger underneath the blade for a spydie flick blade deployment, which is the most fun way to fidget with a Spyderco. And I expect my knives to function as fidget toys as well as tools.

Perfect

I love knives. And Spyderco PM3 is one of my favorites. I personally prefer the liner lock. And this Pattada is a work of art starting with awesome M390. It opens like silk and locks with a great snap. It fits in the hand smoothly with the contoured G10 handles. The whole knife is elegant and slices like a Spyderco. I’ve heard some complaining of the lack of jimping on the back of the blade where one’s thumb rests. I am pleased it does have. I recommend this knife before it’s gone. I ordered 3 more for my kids.

The perfect small knife

I say small because I prefer my EDC’s to have a blade at least 3.5”. To me this knife has a fantastic handle and near perfect blade which is quite thin and with M390 steel, my favorite, which can become very sharp. In fact I’m actually a bit afraid of it so I’m being careful. Of all in my knife collection this is the only one I’m concerned with getting cut by. The knife is not for heavy use but will cut anything light with ease. A minor complaint is that the opening for the liner lock is 1” down from the blade making it harder to engage but not enough to bother me because I like this knife so much. Also the wire type pocket clip does bend from side to side some. Perhaps I can find an after market clip. I foresee this being my first choice to carry for any light work.

Italian Spyderco?

Love the slicey thin M390 blade. Taichung quality. Liner lock is little stiff and not drop shut. Much better after removing the pocket clip that moves around and bothers my grip. Overall more likes than not. A must have if you're Spyderco fan.

Just an elegant and beautiful knife

I saw this knife and immediately purchased it. I listen to Nick Shabbaz review and felt his overall impression was negative. I recieved a perfectly constructed knife. Blade is perfectly aligned and I love the feel in my hand. If I had one critique I prefer liner locks on the back spine and thus a fan of the Spyderco PM2 and PM3. The Patadese liner lock has a cut out on the belly to release which needs considerable pressure to release. As it is in keeping with the whole refined gentleman’s knife I can deal. The lock up comes with an audible snap and I love that. It is also M390 Steel what is not to like. It is a real slicer. And I imagine if one was to use this as a poker it Would do considerable damage. Yet if you were at the office nobody would be initially freaked. I loved this life so much that I purchased 3 more for my kids.

Slim, slicey, sexy Italian Job

I was not sure about ordering this knife, based on the blade style and comments about opening and closing. I will admit that part of reason I did was because I felt it was a good price for M390 steel and I have a soft spot for Italian made knives. I appreciate the design of the handle. Very slim, taking up almost no room in my pocket while still having a very confident grip with XL hands. Normal people will have little issues with opening the knife, with the thumb cutout favoring us. But lefties should not shy away from this either. I find it easy to open with either hand. Do not buy this expecting it to open with a flick of the wrist. It actually requires movement of your thumb. Closing takes slightly more effort from the liner lock than many knives, but it's a very small niggle for what you are getting. The blade style is quite Un-American and I mean that as a compliment. It is a sophisticated look that probably would not stand up to hard use. But we all have other options for that work. This is a blade for finer work that is small enough not to frighten, but with a style that will get respect from the owner as well as bystanders. Stylish, but Oh that wicked little point. No regrets on this purchase.

Reviewing the Spyderco Pattadese

This Italian made Spyderco Pattadese is a good knife in the main since of using it for its main purpose cutting !! It feels great in your hand I experienced no hot spots nor sharp edges. The opening is an entirely different story ? Slow role is probably the best opening method finger flicking is basically not doable down ward snap opening is good. Blade steel is AWSOME and materials used are a great choice for this cutting tool.
