Great Blade, More Pocket Friendly then you’d think.

Most knives come “kind of sharp” of box. This knife came very sharp with a great even grind. The knife did come off center to the show side. I’m not a huge centering guy… I’m sure it can be fixed if I really cared. I was very surprised how little real estate the knife took up in my pocket for such a large blade. The Military 2 is a big knife because of its length not because of its width. If takes up the same room in the pocket as the Para 3. You can easily slide your hand in and out of your pocket to store / remove other things. I sealed the Cruwear with Wicked Wax and haven’t seen even a speck of rust. I’ve carried this knife for 3 weeks now and touched it up with a ceramic rod and 2m strop. Spyderco is one of the best at heat treatment and this steel is no different. I do have 1 issue but I don’t know if I can blame Spyderco or not. I flipped the pocket clip from tip down to tip up carry. First, the right screw fell out, so I replaced the screw and tightened them all again. Then about 3 days later I lost a 2nd screw from the left hole on the pocket clip. Maybe I didn’t tighten them enough because I used a stripped T6 screwdriver? I’m not sure. All said and done, this has been a better fit for me than my Para 3. Maybe if I go back to working in high rise buildings again I’ll switch back to the Para 3. The 4” blade may scare people. It’s a joy to use the Military 2. Grab one and feel for yourself.

So Good!

I've purchased a few Spyderco's now and this is one of the best. Out of the box it came insanely sharp, and when I did my first sharpening the bevels were darn near perfectly set at 17 degrees per side. The micarta feels fantastic, the centering was perfect, and the lock functions well. I'm very happy with this and if you're looking for a big but still manageable knife with good slicing geometry, this is it.

SM2 Crucarta Worth The Wait

My SM2 arrived in perfect shape. Very sharp. Well centered. The spydie hole wasn’t too sharp at all. I have the PM2 I. Crucarta and this larger version is as good as the smaller version. The action is silky smooth with a tight lock up and no blade play. I highly recommend this model.

Great Knife

Excellent knife/steel, quality in the build, and ease of use is spot on, very similar to a Benchmade LUM knife which I've had for years and loved everything about that knife except one thing: the blade steel won't hold an edge- can sharpen where it'll shave, set it down and not touch it for a month- open it and it won't pull a hair on your arm. Seems after 2000 Benchmark lost their way. Spyderco sure hasn't the utility of this knife is best I've used

Crazy sharp, little tight

Sharpest knife I have ever bought out of the box. Stropped it a little with 1000 and 3000 diamond paste and it's like a laser. Almost too easy to cut stuff. And I like my knives sharp at that. Bearings are a bit snug, but I have read they'll loosen up with time. Wasn't able to adjust it out with the frame and pivot screws, which also destroyed the thread locker, so had to fix that, but I'm still pleased. Tip bevel is off just a hair on one side, but not enough to complain. I had to reprofile two Benchmades out of the box, so there's that. But everything else was perfect. Did move the pocket clip to the opposite side and end as that made the compression lock easier for me to use, but thankfully you can put it on either side or end. And lastly, like one other person had commented, though some big knives don't carry so well, this does quite remarkably for me.

Disappointed!

I preordered the SM2 CruWear as soon as I heard about it & preorders were being taken. I love my SP2 and been wanting its bigger brother. But the SM2 is nothing like SP2. The Spyder hole on my SP2 is smooth to my thumb. But the one on the SM2 feels rough, almost jagged. I love the compression lock on my SP2 but on the SM2 it is horrific. I done everything I could to get it to release the blade without me using ten pounds of force to open it. It is almost lock stick. Lastly, it arrived out of the box off center (which I did fix). The ultility of it is fine and the blade is good & sharp. But the rough thumb hole and the super stiff compression lock takes all the fun out of it. Extremely disappointed.

I love this knife, but

As a heavy equipment mechanic, this is the size and weight I wanted to buy with the grip and textured handles that will not deteriorate when coming in contact with heavy grease and grime. I wish it was easier to open, very difficult to open one handed. When I fully compress the lock, the blade will not move opening or closing. Even using my thumb in the spotty hole is difficult, seems like it’s too tight. Question; do they use Loctite on the threads? Before I go into this thing, should I give it more time to break in.
