It cuts a lot!
The blade is great, it cuts very well. The weight and size are almost perfect. I'll use it for a while longer and then keep it in my collection because you never know when you'll get another one like it.

Perfect EDC
The Native 5 is a great knife. It has the perfect size and is very light. I am looking forward to finding out how the 15V holds up. The only drawback to the Native 5 for me is that the pocket clip is not deep carry.

Solid EDC, great steel
The Native 5 with FRN handles is my favorite EDC knife. Good ergonomics, big enough to do most daily jobs, not big enough to attract attention. The FRN is lightweight and good for a knife that is going to be used and keeps the price lower than fancier handle materials. The lockback is solid and trustworthy unlike some other lock types I've used. The steel performs great and has yet to need sharpening.

15v is pretty cool stuff
This is an interesting steel. Crazy crazy edge retention. The LTW Native platform is perfect for this. Fantastic ergos for a light/moderate use EDC. On week 3 of factory edge (very very good from the folks in Golden USA EARTH :) — indoor (usual around house stuff), outdoor yard garden stuff — stropped on a ceramic rod maybe once or twice …. Still shaving sharp. It will patina, kind of like maxamet but seemingly a bit more aggressively. Looks good to me. Grab one while you can.

Spyderco Native
Knife is light weight but not delicate, a good slicer. Came nice & sharp & haven’t needed to sharpen it yet. Of course, I’ve only used it lightly so far but I’m confident it could handle most edc tasks. I got this knife in 15V because I didn’t have any knives with that blade material & I know Spyderco has a reputation for proper heat treat.

Love it
This 15v model came with perfect fit and finish. I had issues with other Golden made spydercos but not with this guy. Perfect blade centering and precise edge bevels. Very happy with this one!

My least "polished" Spyderco ever.
I have over about 10 spydercos and I am a bit of a fan boy. The steel is hair popping sharp and I expect it to be one of my favorite (20cv, m4, magnacut, k390). That's the good.
The bad: i expect this batch was rushed to consumers.
1.This is not my only native 5 and it came so tight I could barely open with a slow roll of my thumb.
2.The backlock felt like there was sand in it.
3.The jimping from the lockback that continues to the blade are two different widths and spacing.
Attempting to correct/investigate the issues:
1. After disassembling I found the machining on the inside of the lockbar was insanely rough. Im not talking 80grit marks... I'm talking deep groves that looked like jimping. This was causing the gritty feel when I would depress the lockbar and the spring would chatter down these bumps and then back up. It really felt full of sand. So I filed and sanded the area of contact with the spring. One problem solved.
I then tried to correct the inability to open smoothly by using 3k grit on all metal to metal contact areas. ALSO, there are no washers. This simply rides blade on FRN handles. I get companies sometimes use nylon washers, but this clearly caused some of the friction when opening (there are raised bits for the blade to ride on, so there was an engineering attempt to minimize friction). I cleaned everything and oiled it before assembly. This is where I found the error in adjustability in the lightweight model. The two halves snap together. Great for holding things together, but eliminates any options to tune the pivot screw to a looser setting (allowing the blade to move more freely)
There is no correcting the jimping from the lockbar that continues to the blade. That will remain a mismatch.
CONCLUSION:
The blade has loosened up a bit. I know there can be a break in period, but this was unacceptable for the spyderco name. I enjoy the blade when cutting. Im not one to return a knife or warranty one. It will stay in my collection and I have ordered aftermarket scales that accommodate bronze washers (etsy). It might make me feel better about things....we'll see.
