Great knife, rare in the UK
I originally purchased this knife from a supplier in the UK who kept lying to me and not sending it out. Nobody seems to have any in stock so I relented and purchased from the Knife Center USA. I am an offshore commercial diver and use a Spyderco Atlantic Salt as my in water knife attached to a special clip coil lanyard with the belt clip removed. I found the Spyderco Assist and knew it would make a fantastic deck knife, for use in cutting any rope, tape or anything else that needed cutting whilst working on deck. The Assist Salt model made the most sense as I have had good use out of my Atlantic and so far no rust or problems. The regular assist model is easy to find but the Salt model isn't. Thankfully KC had one in stock and shipped it to the UK very quickly. The knife is strong, stronger than the Atlantic due to the thicker handle and broad blade. The whistle is a great feature to have, mainly to call the attention of crew/divers during noisy surface operations. The window breaker is good to have, although I will probably never use it. The blade itself is more useful than a full serrated edge because you can use the plain end of it for detailed cutting such as cutting tape. I find that the best sharpener for these spyderco blades is the Lansky Blademedic as it does the serrations and plain edge perfectly.

This is a lifesaver!
The size and feel of this knife give a great feeling of confidence, easy to open, solid reassuring locking click. Great design in the length and usability of the blade. Killer sharp. The function of cutting rope by squeezing the blade into the handle is brilliance. Hidden carbide glass breaker easy to deploy when needed. Even with gloves on this is a easy tool to use efficiently. Won't rust, sharp as a laser(will get better over time), multi functioned,.. Will be a great asset to your emergency gear.

PSA: I bought this knife to keep in the center console of my car. I am not a professional, and I hope to never have to use this knife. If you are a professional who intends to use this knife while on duty, I would suggest trying it out yourself and reading reviews from other professionals. OK, now on to the review. This is a typical Spyderco quality knife. That is a good thing. The fit and finish are very solid. The lockup is strong and there is no play. The action is tighter than your standard Spyderco utility knife so most of "fun" Spyderco opening methods may be challenging. The "Spydie Drop" is easy enough, but the flick is nearly impossible for me. I'm sure it'll break in over time, but this is a rescue tool, not a utility knife. I will not be fidgeting with this knife. The handle is very beefy, and with the texturing, provides a lot of grip. It fits well in my medium hands. Since the handle is contoured to each finger, it may not fit all hands the same. The blade is extremely sharp out of the box and can cut through rope and seatbelts without any issues. H1 should hold up in any environment. My plan is to leave this in my car year-round. I don’t expect any rust of corrosion. The contours on the blade are there for a couple of reasons. You’re supposed to be able to lay rope across the handle and fold the blade down over it like a pair of scissors. The grip is fine, but I find cutting rope in the traditional manor to be much more effective. The handle contours also give you a grip to squeeze the blade in the closed position to pop out the glass breaker. This action works well and feels very natural; however, I haven’t tested this on a pane of glass yet. I feel like it’s worth practicing if you can. The glass breaker is much smaller than what you’d get on something like a Microtech, so I feel like you need to be more accurate with your hit. If your angle is off, you’ll wind up hitting the plastic handle first. Overall, I feel like with a little practice, this will be a very effective tool that will outlast me.

Very handy knife
For all intents and purposes, this knife is a worker. Extremely sharp, good opening action and lock-up. Given blade material and quality you can beat the hell out of this thing, and will continue to cut. Great grip, perfect for extreme environments or just to keep in your vehicle in case of emergencies. Good product for the price.

Well...
Much bulkier than I expected, but then again, it's a rescue knife. Good for keeping in car or in kit, but not so much a daily carry or keeping on your person while biking. Ended up returning for this reason. Went for a Manix 2. If you need an emergency specific responder knife, something for a motorcycle kit, probably a good choice. Can it cut like a saw through carbon or small branches? I doubt it. Belts and clothes? Yes.
